Throttle bodied car not firing fuel.

  Whichever has fuel
My mates car is turning over, there's fuel coming out of the fuel lines when disconnected but nothing coming out of the injectors.

He's taken off his Meg 225 injectors and tried his standard 172 ones, but still nothing.

Any ideas? Car is on bodies and standalone ECU and this is all new to us (being non standard) so we don't really know where to start.

If there is fuel pressure but nothing coming out of the injectors, there must be no signal getting to the injectors.

Dan, see below mate.

If there is fuel pressure but nothing coming out of the injectors, there must be no signal getting to the injectors.

The ECU and loom was removed from my standard 172 engined car (That started/worked perfectly) and then fitted to this 'bodied car.

What has been missed do you think??

Has it got spark? If not see weather you are getting any crank sensor input to the ecu

This sounds a bit out of our depth now....

We were hoping to just fit it from one car to another and bobs your monkhouse. I guess not!

Time to speak to Chip!! lol.

Just whizz a spark plug out and put a jump start cable from the main body of the spark plug to an earth on the car and see if you get spark. If you can't be bothered open the throttle and spray some brake cleaner down and see if you hear it ignite :)

I can pop up with my laptop and the software and see what the ecu is seeing mate?

That would be amazing mate. I'll send you a text tomorrow when i've spoken to him as he works/lives nowhere near where the car is kept.

Thank you. x

Pop an injector out, crank it over and see if there is any fuel coming out - if not then (As there is fuel in the pipes) there must be no signal getting to the injectors - check all injectors to make sure no signal is there, then just need to figure out if it is an ECU issue (which i doubt) and more along the lines of a wiring issue

Where is he mate? I'm guessing it's Sams? Drop me a PM and I could pop over if it's not miles away lol x

If you'd answered what ECU it was we could have helped more LOL

If it's omex then part of the loom needs splicing into the standard crank sensor or you don't get a feed

Assuming its Dan's ECU from the mk1 he is on about, then its an Mtec.

As Dan says, first step is to plug in a laptop and see what is happening, if its doing nothing at all (ie no spark and no fuel) then its one of the following:
no power to it
crank sensor signal needs the input sensivity adjusting (small screw inside the ecu)
you've somehow killed it, welding while its plugged in or similar

It has indicator lights on the front of the unit, does the power one come on, and when you turn it over do any of the others flash?

Plug a side repeater into one of the the injector plugs, it'll flash if the injectors are getting a signal.

I'd be a little wary of doing that as the current draw is probably higher than the injector (clio injectors are high impedance), so you might burn out the injector driver in the ECU.

An injector noid to do the same thing would be fine though.
