Throttle Bodies or Gear kits

  ph1-172
imo, if you change the gearing on a standard engine, and pay a considerable amount doing it wether dogbox or just gear kits and rebuilt. then 6 months down the line figure "oh i know i'l slap some bodies on it" the new gearing won't suit it

as andrew said lsd for the grip, some decent tyres but you can have loads fun in the cars standard. just do some trackdays and make you own mind up using your own experiance

if your gearbox needs work already, why not, otherwise you could just end up running out of cogs on a big straight one day

Well like its kinda only for one track mondello and thinking doin time attack next year and need to get up to speed!Have spare gearboxes but if even just buy one wth work done like a lsd and mayb final drive?

  Listerine & Poledo
how much would that be?
can you not use a gearbox off of, say, a 1.2? That'll be fairly short I'd have thought.

Dunno that what lookin for like with the competition id have like most the cars have both throttle bodies gear kits and diffs like iv bit engine work done and a standard jc5 box 1.2 would last too long the pod just pop out the diff!!

  182cup & 172 racecar
We have run a standard box this year and had no problem at all,in fact we have never got into 5th.Next year we will be running with a different final drive to make use of 5th.Going to see what happens at Snetterton this weekend ie,if we hit the limiter in 4th down the back straight,if so for how long for so we can work it out.Castle Coombe,Silverstone and Anglesea we just hit limit before we lift off for a bend so not a problem.LSD we don't run as it just complicates things if anything goes wrong gearbox wise.

Like what sorta thing ike you runnin bout 190 bhp?? so just stick what have improve brakes and supspension?

  Lionel Richie
the only time we struggled was at spa going up the hill after eau rouge, could've done with better gearing there as it was a bit "flat" in 5th

  TrackCar & F30 330d
For me, the only time the gearing lets me down is when i'm at the Nurburgring. The really long uphill section around 3/4 of the way round. I'm either sat at 7,000 in 4th or sat in 5th and its a bit "flat" as Fred puts it.

Its the only boring part of the track really, just feels like i'm sat on the Motorway doing 110mph, the speedo just doesnt move lol

Dog gearkit and LSD before ITB's, A proper gearbox makes a car.

1st gear in road gearbox is usually to short for racing, you get far to much wheel spin. And while your fellow racers are pulling out of a tight corner in second bogging down off cam, you can be in first gear right on the power with a quick clutchless shift into second. Having a taller first also means the rest of the gears are closer ratio keeping the engine in its optimum rev range. Transmission losses will also be lower with a proper box, which means more of your engines power will be going to the wheels. It will also increase the value of your race car considerably come sale time over ITB's

Im sure its £3k from gripper for a dog box with an LSD, sequential is obviously alot better. I know as i have one, but i dont think your alowed to run with them in time attack or other race series'.

Ive seen engines blow because of dog box's also, but ive also over reved my motor a few times banging the sequential down the gears too fast so its swings and roundabouts really.

Ye but like i runnin a clio williams engine that bored out to 2.1 with wossner high comp pistons balanced knife edged crank , lightened flywheel ported polished head with high lift cams and vernier pulleys four branch manifold with full system only have it ran in on the standard ecu so have to get proper ecu first.was just thinkin getting a quaife diff and a lower ratio final drive???
