thudding noise when putting into first gear.

My car makes a thudding noisy when i put it into first gear when stationary, any idea's what this could be?

Check the gearbox linkages.

the box doens't like being forced round best idea is to double clutch inot first.

Could be a worn clutch cable or syncros.

I had that on my old 172. Sat at traffic lights, put the clutch down, into first and it would clunk.

To get around it, I would put the clutch down, blip the engine a little (to about 1250rpm) and then put it into first, and it wouldn't clunk.

Never discovered what it was, just thought it was normal.

Ye blip throttle on downshift to match RPM,

But its best not to put it into first unless you are slow rolling or you are near dead stopped.

We're talking stationary, not heel 'n' toeing into first

We're on about it happening when stationary. Well I am anyway lol.

Yeah mine does this too, quite often put it in 2nd then first and that seems to help
