thudding noise when putting into first gear.



Check the gearbox linkages.

the box doens't like being forced round best idea is to double clutch inot first.
 
I had that on my old 172. Sat at traffic lights, put the clutch down, into first and it would clunk.

To get around it, I would put the clutch down, blip the engine a little (to about 1250rpm) and then put it into first, and it wouldn't clunk.

Never discovered what it was, just thought it was normal.
