Tints? Are they worth it?

  BG 182
My Dad has sorted out a deal with a local tiniting company to get any shade % of tint I want on all 5 windows for £100.. I think the price is awesome but im not sure if it's going to be worth it.. what with the numerous encounters with the police? I was thinking maybe to get a very light smoke all the way around, being as though I have a black car, think it will look quite smart.. What do you guys reckon? Is it worth it seeing as i'm getting it done on the cheap?

Thanks,
Danni :D

i would probably get a 50% tint on all 5 for me Deffo dont go higher and i wouldnt go lower than 35% all round otherwise its not dark enough but this is the safer option if your worried about having to take them out

Had light smoke on my 1.2 16v sport but wouldnt have them again.

If the police are fairly strict on it in your area don't bother. Most of the windows are tinted to the maximum legal limit on the front windows anyway. adding a 50% tint ontop of that can take it into or very close to the area in which the car can be declared unfit to be driven basically.

Resulting in possibility of 3 points a nice fine and not having the use of your car until it is removed and it is checked over by the police typically. Usually have 10 days to get it sorted.

If the Police aren't too bad in your area probably fine. Where I live I have seen quite a few guys pulled over for what looks like having tints. So decided it was not worth it to me. Plus I don't like the idea of 3 points on my license.

Not too sure how dark mine are, but you can't see through the back 3 at all un less you press your face to the glass ;)

Haven't been stopped once, and I personally think they make my car look a lot better than other black clio's.
But that's my opinion.
They were already on my car so I have no idea of the price. A few mates have researched doing it to their cars and they can't because it's so expensive (actual tints, not just tinted stick on sheets off ebay)
£100 is an extremely good price.

ps i had mine checked and they are all legal :)

I love mine, during the day they dont look dark at all, but at night you can just tell theres someone in the car. There isnt a huge difference on mine between front and back, ie> the back arnt limo!! Personally, i think tints look poo wen either there arnt any on the front or theres too big a difference in shades between the front and back. Ive never had any hassle for my tints, even after gettin pulled over for an unrelated offence. At £100 tho, id say go for it!!

Any tint on the front is technically illegal!!! lol. Its just one of those tho, depends how awkward a copper you get!! Ive known lads have to peel there film at the side of the road!!

Tints look good imo, I think I'm the only one in my family who doesn't have them (no we're not a mafia family!) but no-one has super dark tints except my dad. To not get stopped, have a light smoke on the front 2 and maybe a shade darker on the rears. Don't have a big difference or it will look s**t. Cos my dad has an estate he has a lot of glass, each window gets darker towards the rear and it looks gd. Shame the coppers made him remove the fronts cos it already had a slight factory tint.

Think law is the fronts have to let in at least 70/75% light but that have changed to 100% recently...will have to check that mate.

I had 35% all round on my Old 197 and my Old Golf Turbo and tbh, it was plenty dark enough. Any darker and you're asking for trouble.

mines are 35% all round the legal limit..

Not strictly true mate.

Any darker than how it left the factory on the front side windows and its illegal. My 35% tints were technically illegal, but tbh you'd have to be a very bored copper to want to do me for it.

I'm having Limos at the back and legals at the front to match my black and gold theme. I think its pretty handy for when you accidentally leave something worth quite abit on ur seat. One time my phone dropped out of my pocket as ive left the car and it was on the seat. I had plenty of lads round here looking into the car as they walked past. I think its worth it tbh

Looking at some of the peoples comments I do not think a lot of you know that perfectly clear glass with nothing on it does not let in 100% of light. It lets through around 85% there abouts.

Keep in mind you have to allow 70% of light through on the front windows. Which with a a 35% tint on that 85% to begin with takes it quite a bit below the 70% mark.

the law is different up here dan!!

With motoring it is the same laws as anywhere else in the UK. 70% is legal requirement. And a 35% tint takes you under the 70% limit. Actually takes you closer to the 60% mark due to as previously said windows not letting 100% of light through.

You would really have to get a copper on a bad day to pull you for it though. Unfortunately I seem to attract those ones. And they always pull me for absolutely sod all. Well Except last time where I entered a bus lane 5 minutes before I was allowed to use it...according to his watch.

Sorry if the images come out too big But my car below has limo blacks on the rears and light to medium i think about 30% darkness on the fronts.
Well for a black car it suits it an ive only ever been stopped once for it which was a friend on the job having a laugh, had them since october last year.

£100 is good though.

there is also something they can do, that the nearer you get to the window the worse you can see in. not sure what its called but my m8 had it on his only cost an extra £10, worth asking when you go me thinks.

what i dont understand is how ppl have said tht anythin other than what leaves the factory is illegal but alot of sports cars are now leaving factory with darker tints even on the front sides.

ye make sure the 2 front ones dont look to dark. Nowadays adding any tint to front 2 windows is illegal as the limit is no less than 70% of light must be let through. and i would say standard windows let 75/80%.

But if they not todark you should be fine

i had 15% of light let through my front two on my corsa which is very dark and had no problems for 1 year and a half. till they told me totake them off. which made it look shite so i put 50% on and cops left me alone even though it was illegal agian. just not obvious

Not nowadays with the new law. must let no less than 70% which is about what standard windows are already.

had tints on my old bus, 35% on the front with 50% on the rears, ran around for about a year with no probs, until i got pulled by the traffics, who, by chance, happened to have one of only two 'tint man' devices in the strathclyde area (lucky me, eh) needless to say they failed and i was given a choice-either remove them at the roadside or have it trailered away and impounded.Seeing that as i was in the middle of nowhere, miles from home i had no choice but to strip them off there and then.As if that wasn't enough i was also hit with a fine and had my license endorsed:(

As you can see from the pic they weren't much darker than standard, just unlucky i guess

still look good mind:)
