to change or not to change??? that is the question!

  Clio 182
Hi,
My 182 is going in to have all the belts done on Thursday. I've only had a clio for a short time and until recently had never even heard of a dephazer pulley, so I have no idea how they behave. Its done 70k, and the difference in price is about £200 if i chose to get the pulley replaced. As i understand it, its not showing signs of wear but am told that the cam-belt change interference could send it to its grave.

What would you do?

I always check them for signs of play which is why I always keep one in stock but I say if you can afford it and you plan on keeping the vehicle, get it done.

Worst case is it goes shortly afterwards - depending upon who is doing the job for you, would normally incur a nominal labour charge to replace it but some places may charge you to re-do the entire job as technically that's what they're doing.

IMO change it for piece of mind. It could last but it could fail shortly after and having to pay once again.

If you love your car- change it for peace of mind!
Make sure you get it done by a specialist also, plenty of them on here. Went to see Fred from BTM myself, closest to me- did a top job!
My 182 no longer sounds like a diesel:)

deffo change it! not worth having belts done and then 5-6 months down the line having to do it all over again coz the dephaser fails!

understood. just booked it all in, cambelt, dephaser, aux belt & tensioner, spark plugs (as the inlets going to be off anyway)... £730!! ouch! Now just need to do the clucth and replace the previous owners £30 tyres! ;)

Thanks for the advice
