Can i have your veiws please boys and gals..... As u know i am blessed with insurance, im 18, and can have anycar insured for me for a very low price, i currently drive the 172 Cup as most of u know, and i only use the car for pleasure, not for going to work in, Just a toy really, the thing is i love the cup but following my bro in his mk1 V6 just makes me wanna have one!

So im tempted to change the 172 for the mk1 v6.... I know the v6 is much more edgy drive, but i am a sensible driver and only push to my capable limits, would u keep the cup or go all out and get the Vee?

Coments r welcome

i rekon so mate, your sensible with the cup, but the v6 is a big jump! and i wont talk to you anymore if you have a vee at 18!

Agree. Not a huge amount of a jump in performance just enjoy the lower running costs of the cup and live a bit. Youre still young so spend the spare cash on booze women and holidays instead.

Would have to be a mk2 m8. I kept up with CB1As mk1 v6 2 upwith just a filter and about 2000 miles. Before anyone says it...yes I know that it is about more than just speed, the v6 looks and sounds a thousand times better than my Cup but it wouldnt look half as good being overtaken by an inferior model.

Keep what youve got m8...filter,exhaust,decat,rsport. That will keep you amused for a while.

Little Newms, arent you going to Steves newyear doo? Ill take you for a blast if you like...see what is possible for very little money.

Chris

You always lust after something else if you own a V6 Mk1 youll lust after a Mk2 V6 or an elise etc.

Lust in an expensive thing isurance might be the same price but other bills might put you off and it might be too unusable ever day compaired with the Cup.

If it were me Id personally get a Porche if I didnt need the car for work and had cheap insurance.

I dont want to sound negative but chasing someone is often never the best thing to do.

I cannot spell, only just checked and Id spelt it worng and that was after a few attempts.

I dont care what people say about Porsche or Audi TTs (convertbale Ts and V6 excepted) I want one I dont care how fast they are what the handle like or who sees me in one I think there gorgeous. Id swop my dci for a 12hp diesel TT if I could.

Dont worry - Insurance companies cotton on - they always do

I work for one and the rules keep changing all the time.

I thought about a mk1 V6 before i got my 182 (when i just turned 18)...

Insurance aside, i realised that the running costs of a V6 might be quite substantial compared to a 182. (petrol and service) but especially petrol with my high milage.

Also the fact that i would only be able to take the wife in the car...(No pals jumping in to drive to the five a sides)....

Ruled it out...not unless you have another car to drive...

The V6 to me would be my "bit on the side"

My mates a renault salesman, and he tells me that they receive no end of MK1 V6s back with problems, but the MK2s are much better.

Id stick with the cup personally, but if you wanna change, go for the MK2.

Exactly ! Well put...Dont get trapped by cars dude...

If you want the car for what it is; a crazy idea, with a brilliant engine note, looks like nothing else, etc. then the V6 is a fun car to own. But the cup will be quicker in most conditions, and cheaper to run (although Im not sure that applies to your friday afternoon one!) and easier to mod. Id ignore people who say you cant use it everyday, its not impracticle for a young chap with few commitments to own (just make sure you go to ikea in someone elses car - simple!). Just make sure you buy one wisely, and if it doesnt turn out to be your thing, you can easily move on.

But how do you get the money for the car in the first place? I skipped uni and went straight to work but its not like i went straight to 20k a year..

The Cup only cost me 6300..... Dad bought my first car off me, im paying bk for the car monthly via the bank of my dad lol (he wouldnt let me get a loan)

Is that all?! Good deal. I got a dad loan for my Clio as i wasnt old enough to get finance/loan anyway.

As for the V6, it would depend on your maturity really, at 18 (one year ago) i did rag my car about a bit and had a lucky escape. The V6 has built in understeer but there is no stopping physics after a point, if youre stupid, youll get eaten alive..

Mate you would be stupid to go out and get a 20K car at 18 unless ya work and have a good income. Whats the point in spending half your life paying back a car. I got me mk1 172 second hand but couldnt face asking me parents or bank for a loan and did what most do and save me own cash.

I say stick with the cup and just do some engine mods.
