Tolley Jack Jacking Points on Mk1 Clio

  S2000

I was wondering where people would recommend as the best places to use as jacking points, with a trolley jack, for a Mk1 Ph2 1.4 RT.

The reason I amsking is that I was looking in the Haynes manual and it suggests that for the front you use the subframe with a piece of wood across it but I am planning on lowering the car by 60mm and I wouldnt be able to get a trolley jack under there. I havent bought a trolley jack yet but I am planning on buying one tomorrow.

Would you be OK to use the jacking points under the sill if you put a piece of wood or something along there?

Thanks.

the points i use on the front are 2 beams that come from the subframe area, and go towards the back of the car, just under a foot in from the sill.

Axle stands seem the perfect size to hold at that point, and ive not had any problems yet with using that

The sills on the jacking poins are strong enough as long as you spread the weight and dont lift the car on a tiny surface area.

Dont life the car on its subframe use the jaching points/ axle stand points mole recomended which are under the car about 1 ft in from the door sills you canot miss them.

Ill have a look at for those jacking points tomorrow. How far under are they and would you have any trouble getting to them with a trolley jack on a clio lowered 60mm. I know it would vary depending on the jack but do you think you would manage this with a jack of minimum height 14cm or would I have to go for an 11cm one?

11cm one youll need.

My cars lowered about 10~20mm from standard and is a Williams so not high in the first place so its probably the same height as you want yours. I can just get the trolly jack under on a very even road however any slight incline and I have to drive the car onto some 3cm thick pieces of wood to lift it up which is loads of hasle. Dont forget its not the height of achaul liftin point more the highest point in total of the jack you have to think off as the jacsk about 1~1.5 feet under the car when your lifting on those points.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. Ill measure how far under the car that jacking point is tomorrow and then check what height the jack is at at that point when I go jack shopping tomorrow.

Ive had a look under the car and I think I know where you mean but Im not 100% sure. Is it the part that runs from the start of the sill to about the middle of the drivers door (or passengers on the other side) and does it run parallel to the side of the car about 1 to 1.5 foot towards the centre of the car?

If these are what you mean then where do you recommend jacking up the rear of the car using a trolley jack?

Yep there the bits for the front.

As for the back well the cars weight noting at the back so you can use the sills or use the torsion bar there two round bits you cna jack up on.

Ill get a picture tomorrow.

Thanks bud - that would be excellent. I thought they were the bits you were meaning but I wanted to check first. I couldnt go Jack shopping today as I am trying to avoid using the car as the bearings are f**k so Ill need that sorted before I can get myself a jack and get cracking with some work on the car.

you will be lucky to get a cheap low jack, and if you do find one let me know, as i could do with one, most low ones seem to be £50+

Buy one of those cheap ones from Motorworld there quite low then either remove the wheell which lowers it more (and ligthens it) ot drive the car onlt some small blocks of wood to get the jack under it like I do.
