Tom Tom in 182 - signal problems

Tried gs dads tom tom 500/600 cant remember which it is, anyway i got signal for part of the jorney to my house, on the way back though it couldnt find a signal.

Does the windscreen affect these things?

i presume the set up of the later tomtom's are almost the same as the classic in which case yes.
the heat reflecting windscreen plays havoc with the gps thingy, you need an external aerial to maintain and improve the signal.

edit: thats the aerial i've got and it works a treat.
