Tom's Audi TT QS Detail

  E46 M3 & UR Quattro
I was recently contacted by TomSx and asked to detail his lovely Audi TT QS.

The car was dropped off on Friday evening ready to be tackled on Saturday.

Few shots beforehand:

First impressions, fair amount of tar and fall out but nothing too serious.

Bare with me here, I got pretty carried away, so my progress photos are few and far between..

Started off with snow foaming with AF Avalanche. Left to Dwell for a while and then removed by pressure washer.

I then moved onto the wheels, cleaned with AF Imperial and a variety of brushes, including the new Daytona Speed-Master.

Re-washed with AF Lather and dabbed dry.

I then moved on to the engine bay, this was heavily soiled in grime, grease and dirt. I used AF Verso 1:3 and a variety of brushes. Dressed the plastics with AF Revive.

Due to the colour, I decided my weapon of choice would be the AF Tripple and Tough Coat combo.

Wheels protected with AF Mint Rims, Tyres dressed with AF Satin and Arches dressed with AF Dressle.

Gave the car a final wipedown with Finale and took it round the corner for a few shots:

I really enjoyed my time with the car, it's a lovely bit of kit and I am pretty smitten with it.. Again apologies for the slight lack of progress shots.

Enjoy,
Lawro

Honestly mate I cannot thank you enough. You've certainly changed my lazy view of taking it to the polish and will look to do it myself. Looking in to ordering a load of AF products as we speak! lol!

Even this morning the car still looked unreal -

I love a good detail! TomSx, you will find the car will look clean for a few more weeks, and in a months time it wont need much to bring it up again. A good wash and dry with the right towels and products and a coat of glaze/sealant with some tyre/wheel dressing will be all it needs really as all the hard work has been done. In about 6 months it might be good to give it another full detail. You have done a lovely job Lawro. :)

If he keeps on top of the protection and washes it properly (that's not taking it to the Polish, TomSx), it'll last a year or more, easily. De-tarred and iron'd mine the other day and barely a spot came up.

Great work, Lawro!

Lovely results... Just missed out on 20% off AF products Tom, As Jamie said just keeping in top of it will see it lasting ages.

Ah really? That sucks. The only problem with where I live the nearest hose point is a fair whack from my car. Still, i'll get over it.

What can I use to attack my stained inlet mani? I was thinking of something like cillit bang lol!

@TomSx - I had success with something called Gunk at cleaning off my inlet manifold. Alloy Wheel cleaner and a harsh agitator brush will do a good job as well.

TomSx I owe you cash! Sorrrrryyyyy! En route.

Re the inlet, metal polish and perhaps 3000 grit W&D. Going to attack mine next time I'm at Anthony's Unit. Wait until then and I'll let you know?

Cheers chaps! It's a lovely car and was a pleasure to spend some time on it!

TomSx, I had a bash at the inlet manifold with some neat AF Verso and some Metal polish but it wasn't coming up as well as I would have hoped.. I would probably have used some 3000 Grit on it and polished it up like JD advised but didn't really want to start attacking your car with sand paper lol!

Glad you're happy with it though man.

Looks like a different car. Lovely!

Colour looks so different to mine due to the roof I think.

Sorry to bump this but I cleaned it yesterday with a sponge and its come up suuuuper shiny again. Once washed is there any products I can use/buy to make sure it keeps this way?

Coby.

ClioSport Club Member
AF Finale will bring back a nice shine and remove light watermarks after washing, If you want to add a bit of extra protection aswell as shine maybe try Sonax BSD.

There are better easier to use QDs out there mate, you need a drying towel and a nice QD to make the difference after washing.

Tell me what to order, give me links and i'll purchase. I neeeed to keep it like this.

Looks well mate, i've still got the TTQS itch to scratch, NEARLY bought a red one last year before i bought the 200, but it turned out to be a dog.

Something like the i4D uber yellow drying towel, I think Gally rates Zaino Z6 I think that's their QD, There are so many QD's and I've not tried many so may be best waiting for others who have tried a vast amount to recommend some.

There are lots. Z6 is very nice, Z8 even nicer. Sonus Carnauba spritz. Victoria detail spray (lovely). Even Chemical guys V7 is uber bling but has sealant properties also. Saves topping the protection up.

Will you be waxing or sealing it often? If not buy a qd like V7 with protection properties. :)

If you want some AF bits, hold off a couple of days mate.. They are doing some sort of Easter special in the next couple of days.

Personally I'd use a spray sealant. I say that as you're not a massive detailing buff so wash dry and then buff down with some V7 for example.

Get tyre gel. Megs endurance.

Might have to try the CG V7 on your recommendation, Sounds like the ideal product for the Girlfriends Brother who likes a clean car but is far from a keen enthusiast.

Love this car! Had these wheels on one of my old Golfs and loved them. Seriously considering a set for the R32.
