TomTom Navigator 2 software

Hi

Thinking of getting an iPaq and TomToms Navigator 2 SatNav software (using my RoadAngel as a GPS Source), has anyone had any experience with this software and would like to offer comments....is it as good as expensive in-car satnav systems...does it offer reasonable detail etc

Cheers

you cant do that.

Can I output the GPS data from Road Angel?
- Yes, Road Angel is NMEA compatible and uses Version 2.0 / 0183. This means that it can be used with some Route Mapping software for Satellite Navigation on a laptop PC. The data output speed from Road Angel depends on the firmware version. To check which firmware version is loaded press the DELETE and STORE buttons at the same time. After VER is displayed a number will be shown indicating the firmware version. Versions 103 and 104 output data at 9600bps, versions 118 and 119 output at 4800bps. It is possible to upgrade the firmware, please contact us for further details. We have successfully outputted the GPS data to the following mapping programs: Route 66™, Microsoft AutoRoute 2003™ and InfoMap Professional 7.0™ from Directions Ltd. NB: Please note that we can only provide technical support for Road Angel.

NMEA is the standard output though, unless you use garmin which has the option of NMEA and GARMIN..

Why wont it work tom? Quote from TOMTOM.com:>>

<A name=s13>Can I use TomTom Navigator 2 with my current GPS?
The answer is almost certainly "Yes". TomTom Navigator 2 supports even more GPS devices and protocols than TomTom Navigator 1, including any NMEA 0183v2 or Sirf compatible GPS Receiver (at rates from 4800 to 115200 baud, and including Bluetooth variants). This obviously includes all TomTom-branded GPS devices, as well as the Delorme TripMate, the Destinator GPS, the Emtac CRUX, Emtac GPSJAQ, the Emtac Wireless GPS, The Garmin Etrex, the Garmin GPS12, the Garmin GPSIII, the GNS GPS Card CF II, The Haicom, The Holux GM-200, GM-210 and GM-270CF, The Navman GPS1000, GPS2000 and GPS100, the Peiker DR, the Pocket CoPilot GPS Jacket, the Pocket Track, The Pretec CompactGPS, The Pretec CompactGPS-LP, The Rikaline GPS-6010, The Scania Falcom A3D, and the StreetNav iGPS.

So it supports the same standard as RoadAngel puts out...at a bitrate the software can cope with....whats the problem?

I can get a null modem/serial cable to plug into the RoadAngel and Ipaq (3970 im thinking of getting)

Ive got TomTom Navigator 2 running on my iPAQ and am very happy with it - detail is fine and compares favourably with manufacturer SatNav. It has far greater flexibility than manufacturers SatNav though - the options and ability to customise, as well as add in overlays for speed cameras, football stadia, even Travel Inns etc which are useful.

Well...i just ordered a new HP iPAQ 2210, TomTom Nav2 software, the cable from a company who specialises in satnav and getting ipaqs and roadangels to talk to each other...which was handy! and a 256Mb SD Card...i can get the VAT back cos im self employed so i paid less than £500 for SatNav which compared to the Garmin Streetpilot 3 deluxe at £850!!! i think is a bargain

Thanks for the comments.

Well,

I got the link/power cable from Holux-UK, the TomTom Nav2 software and a HP iPAQ2210 with 256Mb PNY SD Card.

Works a treat...not a single problem with it...worked first time

Cheers
