Renault Clio Williams 2

Hi all, spotted this on car and classic and it looks pretty reasonable price wise. I know it’s a cat d but it’s also donkey years old so to be expected to a degree and it’s had a respray.

Anyone know this car? Or any details on it?

Thanks

I don't know anything about it apart from it would have been worth around £1,000 - £1,500 at absolute max in 2008 so the damage to make it a Cat D will be pretty minor.
My Valver was written off as Cat D in 2008 & the cost to fix & make it mint again was £600 so there's no need to be too concerned about the insurance write off from that time

So I have had an offer accepted for it £8k plus a few hundred quid to car and classic which seems an absolute steal to be honest.

However I ran a quick hpi check / report enclosed and it’s come back with a few items

https://www.vcheck.uk/report/M568KBO-W2KMJ19

1. Current owner has had it 1 year and 7 months rather than 5 years which isn’t too much of a concern
2. It’s been registered as a cat c twice in 2007 and once in 2008.

It only mentions cat d in the advert so just asking car and classic to check as that seems a big oversight to get it wrong in the advert. As Dan says above not surprised it’s a category car as I remembering drive one in my youth and I am sure these cars assaulted many of the local trees and hedges.. but combined with mot’s in 2012 saying about the suspension mounting points being damaged/moved I just want to double check

Not expecting a show car but similarly I just want it to be sold as described. So doing a few more checks.

If anyone has any insight or guidance on category cars or the report that would be great. I had already planned a trip to Haynes breakfast meet in it next week, so probably need some sensible guidance for a change 🙈

Cheers Pete

I hope it works out, and it's just a Cat D. A Williams 2 would my pick of them.

Most common one wasn't it? Sunroof too?

I'd prefer a 1 myself, but beggars can't be chosers on cars like that these days.

Id be concerned about the suspension damage, incase it does not drive right. Might be nothing, might be driving down the road c**k eyed.

So spoke to the owner and car and classic. All of the information they have including v5 says it’s a cat d rather than a c which is good news.

Also it’s had clean mot’s since 2021 albeit not done a lot of miles. I am gonna take a sizeable chance on it. If it works out great, if not, sure it’s fixable with time and money

Cheers for the info + help.

Picked up the car from Blackburn this morning and good news, it’s all good. Paintwork and engine/running gear seem in good order.

Looks like the damage was rear end as there has been a panel welded in but looks like it has been done well. Starts, runs and drives - so all good so far!

Dropped it off at my friends to do the cambelt and general check over ready to hit some b roads and car meets with the kids in the back! 👍👍

Long story short but after 5 months I picked up my Williams Clio phase 2 last night. The guy that was meant to look over it unfortunately couldn’t do it stood as I left it back in October (not even washed). So I got the train up to Shrewsbury last night and picked it up for a 120miles drive back home to Bristol.. risky I know but fortune favours the stupid….

Anyways it made it / car was such good fun to drive even at 70mph on the motorway. Not that many rattles and held temperature all ok. Had to hold it in 5th gear once I got on the motorway, so about 90mins as it kept jumping out but not the end of the world..I have a stronger left arm than popeye now!!!

Now to give it a proper clean and get a few things sorted. Then I will daily it a bit until I get a car for longer journeys

Thanks
