Too much diesel additive cleaner!?!?

My mate has just done a service on his pug 206 1.4hdi and he desised to change the fuel filter + filling it up first with fuel system cleaner.

Started up alright. So must be okay to do that.
The tw*t them desides to add more to the fuel tank on full like it recommended.

Heres the fun part, I've just had to tow him back as the 206 died on him and will no longer fire up, it tries to but can't.

Ive tried the hand primer but still don't like it.

Before I fire easy start down it and try keep it running, should I drain the filter, re add fresh diesel?

Sounds to me like to much cleaner for it ?

Help appreciated

razor.

p.s mods please move , in wrong section

oooo.. so it ran on neat additive in the filter, but wont run on a small amount added to the tank. CR injectors im sure, how far did he drive/how long for before it stopped? any smoke or misfire or just cut out clean? where is the filter, pre or post high pressure pump?

It's had neat cleaner in the filter and even more added to the tank. Drove about 10miles to the station , filled up. Got half way back home and it just died. He said the engine just surged and died

Filter is on the low feed side to pump.
I can't see any air in the lines as its all black/blue plastic lol.

Just managed to fire it up again but it's bit erratic on idle and died after 5mins of idle
Might just try feeding the pump with a jerry can to wash the cleaner out and then drain/refill fuel filter with diesel

is it by any chance a FAP/DPF model?? what is on the ecu, EDc16CPxx or similar, what are those 2 numbers i marked xx?

I'm wondering if the cleaner/additive clogged up the fap filter :-s

It's an old 2004 so no DPF.

cant see any numbers as that's been painted,as well as everything else possible. Looks like 47

I think you will have your work cut out for you on that, that stuff burns HOT.. Dont try to run it too much, get some live data from it, check the fuel pressure is consistent and at the presure it should be, pass that, get the injectors checked if nothing on DTC shows up. I dont want to say, but could even damaged the engine core.. :-s

Never had bother with good fuel additives, we used to fill filters with the cleaner on services and almost always seen an improvement on an ageing motor. I also used to run rough running engines on neat L'orange fuel cleaner or cars that had been run on petrol.

Sounds like drawing air from something you have touched or wrong fuel as said.

It's had proper diesel put in, I've took a fuel sample and tested it with a ' dip ' kit. No petrol reaction on the card.
The rail pressure seems to go up and down from 300bar on cranking.
Injectors not leaking back. Check all fuel line connections and also put another o'ring on the fuel filter housing.

The muppet is sobbing like a kid haha

ive got the car on my drive now as he's borrowed his mums car.

So I'm going to back track all his servicing on the fuel. Will feed the car via a clean jerry can of diesel and see how long it runs and run some live data from that.

The filter looks shitty already, something been cleaned or that's chewed up metal...

i though it would be like a dci fuel system but now I'm puzzled how Bosch designed this one

pot type filter housing, needs an o'ring on top then the lid has a bolt in the middle to screw it down air tight.
pipes just ' quick ' connect onto it.

Have a look at them then mate or anything your pal has, very common place for air to get in. Without some diagnostics your limited to opening things up and checking for blockages etc.

Being a Bosch system, check if its a car with an in tank prime pump for the HP pump, common problem on Bosch. Should be circa 3 bar on most cars I worked on.

if it was delphi i would have it fixed by now, as i have access to the test kit.

i'll fire up the autcom and see what thats bringing up.

the quick connectors look i good condition. i bet its done the same thing as mine and f**ked off a connection near the tank.

the pumps easy to get at to on the tank? i dont want to face any plastic locking rings lol

It's sucking air!

Unless it had 20l of cleaner in it, it will be fine.

300bar at cranking is also more than enough pressure for it to fire.

Crank sensor??
