Torque steer

Car  monaco 172
Just done a long motorway drove and notice that when cruising at say 65 the car is perfectly straight, but as soon as I accelerate it starts to pull to the right quite bad.

Car has recently had new everything up front so all ball joints and bushes etc are fine.

Breaks aren't binding and tracking was recently done on a hunter.

The only thing I can think may be causing it is my rear left toe is out slightly, but I would have thought any problems this is causing would be apparent under coasting aswel.

Anything else to check?

As impezaworks said it sounds tyre related, I had the same on my Honda S2000 after 2 new rear tyres fitted it started immediately darting left and right under acceleration/deceleration, both were same make and size but manufacture date was 6 months apart, when I measured the circumference with string there was 2" difference.

Yeah I had them both off yesterday when doing my rear axles. Both have the same amount of rebound and no leaks.

Not sure how else to check them?

Bumping this thread as after removing the rear shocks together to find one was oem and the other was completely different I changed them both for brand new cup shocks, however the issue is still there and is driving me insane.

There's no knocks from any of the suspension as everything up front and now rear is brand new.

Tyres have also been rotated to see if that changed anything which it didn't

Only other thing I can think of is I replaced the top engine mount but not the gearbox mount. Dogbone is polybushed.

Could uneven engine mounts cause It?

The fact that the car only steers to the right under acceleration suggests that the LHF wheel is producing more drive than the right.
With a front wheel drive car, there is a weight transfer to the rear axle under acceleration.
If the RHR spring is weaker than the left, this will unload the LHF tyre, which will allow an expansion of it`s rolling circumference, thus explaining the phenomenon.
A bit of a 2+2+2= 7 answer, but there could be some truth in it.

Yeh toe is ok now.
Front right could do with a bit more camber but if have thought if that was the issue it would pull off power too

is there anyone local off here you can take it too mate. Otherwise it's just pure guess work as the symptoms point to stuff you've allready replaced or had checked

Swap your back and front tyres around, mine did this after fitting some new rainsports the other year, I swapped fronts to back and it cured it.

As nobody took my previous post seriously, which was only based on the assurance that all up front is 100% & fresh.

The left hand front wishbone must be unstable, altering the toe, under acceleration.

Thanks Steve.

My rears are 6 month old sportlines and brand new cup shocks so I wouldn't have thought it'd be that unless one of the sprigs has gone soft recently.

I'll double check both wishbones are correctly torqued up tomorow along with both ball joint pinch bolts but again they are all new along with powerflex arm bushes.

[QUOTE="hipwell, post: 11481712, member: 52468" There's no funny noises or anything though coming from them.[/QUOTE]
I was surprised to discover play in my LHF during pre MOT checks last year, which was not making any noise.

Bearings are fine, no play.

Could worn top mounts cause this? Like camber and caster changes under load on 1 side causing uneven tyre surface area on the road?

Read a recent thread where loose bolts on the ball joint to wishbone were the culprit.

Ill double check these at the weekend but I did torque them before fitting as my wishbones have got pms stiffening plates on so it's a pain getting a spanner on the top bolts as the driveshaft is in the way.

I know you've had the alignment done, but is it worth taking it somewhere else just to have them check it? Most places will check it for free and only charge if you need/want it corrected.

Guys.

Just been having a look around. Nothing seems loose, no bearing issues, rods seem fine etc.

The only thing I did notice was the front right spring isn't seated properly in the top cap. The dent for the end of the spring was at the other side and I couldnt shift it so I'll have to take the strut off tomorow.

Could this be the source of my problem or am I getting too excited over a minor fault which probably is no big deal?

You know the tracking, worth taking it to a more motor sport biased place and get them to check etc

Yeh that's probably my next thing to do, I've done all I can now.

I just find it strange that it's only in an on power situation, of power or at a steady yspeed it drives perfectly straight
