Download a .torrent file from a popular site like www.mininova.org, download a decent torrent program such as utorrent or u can use the latest version of limewire as well.
Set it off downloading/uploading. So many people using them nowadays hense my ping in the evenings being so shite
Make sure to download torrents with quite a few Seeds. Also not all torrents go that fast so its best to leave your PC on overnight downloading I find, the less Seeds the slower speed you will probably get.

protect your pc, people will be watching you... good firewall and blocker are needed.. something like protowall will help as you can block known ip of people that will be after you..

No one will be after you, millions of people are downloading every minute of the day.
Running a firewall and half decent anti-virus should be standard for any PC thats on the net anyway! You will get loads of IP's connecting to you for the torrent traffic, the same as you get people connecting to you on limewire if you share anything.

i use the programs all the time but its silly not to be protected.. im not saying there will be gunships in the sky and your front door will get kicked in while armed police raid your house, just that its illegal and its better to cover yourself from them and anyone else..

Bet you would have posted this in technology section, despite the lack of knowledge.
Well the legality, as with anything like this, depends on what you download. I've been using newsgroups for well over a year and never had any bad files. And the best thing is, unlike torrents, you download as fast as your connection will allow as it's not dependent on peers. Mine goes straight to 800 KB/s and just sits there until it's finished.
