My download speed is doing my nut in! 100kB/s this morning, then it went up and down like a yo-yo, settling at 30kB/s and I return from the football and it's down to a steady 10kB/s...

I can only assume it's PlusNet controlling it?

I download 200 Gb+ every single month - giganews platinum with SSL FTW!

The only use for TLS on usenet is to possibly defeat traffic shapers.

But if you're using an ISP who doesn't complain about you downloading 200GB+ a month then there is zero point in using TLS!

It stops my ISP being nosey so there is a point IMO.

As for my ISP (BT) they complain like hell but all they end up doing is throttling during peak hours.

All £20 ISP's are s**t if you ask me. I'm currently in an ongoing battle with BT to get out of the remaining 11 months of the contract. They have changed the terms and condition to take into account spying on customers via Phorm. I have told them I don not agrre to the new terms but according to them the changes are not "material" so they reckon they are holding me to term. It's now being dealt with by my solicitor. You get what you pay for with broadband reckon I'm gonna go with:

^^ all depends on how important the internet is to you I guess. All of the major ISP's operate on very tight margins hence why they traffic shape, throttle speeds etc. The high end broadband companies dont participate in any of that nonsense so have to charge accordingly. I mean sky tv costs about the same as the package I would get from aquiss and I use the internet far more than I watch TV.

I don't get traffic shaped on my account? My downloads start at midnight and everything I usually download is finished by the cut off time of 8am

They are pretty open about what traffic gets shaped on which package.

PlusNet Broadband Premier Option 1 is what im on
offpeak starts midnight finishes 4pm but imnot awake then and dont like leaving my pc on over night

Hmmm you reckon. Im with Be Unlimited. I pay £18pm and I get pretty much the fastest ADSL speed you cat get.
