TPFT or Fully comp? Please read before commenting.

Right, firstly, please read all of this post before commenting on how stupid it is.

Getting a van off my dad for day to day use this week hopefully, so the Clio will be used a few times a week if it is lucky. I have the R6 for sunny day fun, so the Clio will kind of take a back seat.
Difference in FC nd TPFT is 450-500 a year so not a small difference.

Only way a claim would be made on the insurance is if I hit someone else and they wouldnt settle outside of insurance. I don't want to lose my no claims so if I put it in a ditch it would just be salvaged, split and get as much back as possible and accept it.

Only positive I can see of fully comp is the windscreen cover, but just had a new one fitted, and limited miles in it means it might be worth taking the risk?

So, sensible replies only please, none of the usual CS s**t.
Thanks you please.

The only real difference is like you say windscreen cover, dont usually get a courtesy car etc

if your willing to take the risk then fair enough, i wouldnt go TPFT with a car worth over 1k though ( just not worth the risk)

I see your point, but will be getting a V6 in a years time now when I hit 21, so will need all of my no claims.

Clio will probably only do a few k a year now I will be having this van on the go, and as said I won't be claiming anyways, so I'm thinking I may as well save the cash.

Anything over £2k I'll usually go FC. As has been said, I'm sure some insurers limit the value to which TPFT can cover

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Fully Comp generally comes with a host of benefits over TPFT and I doubt I could justify the risk.

  Bus w**ker
I'd always got FC on anything over £1000, as that's a figure I couldn't easily replace the next day and for the difference in cover it makes little to no sense for me to go TPFT on most things.

As long as you can afford to pay for repair costs if the worst happened and you are happy to do that then really it's down to personal preference.

+ 1

BUT, as you mentioned that you are not to fussed about having the Clio back etc...

Id make sure i went along the lines of...

TPFT
+ Legal Cover
+ Windscreen cover

- Court Car

Removing Courtosy car can remove about £50 from the policy, and always always add legal cover into your policy (most FC policy will have it).

Thats IMO :)

Thing is, courtesy car doesn't even matter because of van use and and bike.

I would get legal cover but thats it, nothing else bothers me.
I'll get a few quotes for it. :)

id still go fully comp on a 182 as its still worth a few quid. on a ph1 in similar scenario it would be tpft all the way

Have you considered one policy for all 3 vehicles, may work out cheaper, (assuming your insuring all 3 yourself)....

Money is no issue, I'm a CS millionaire :D

I reckon the Clio will do 3-4k miles a year now, not a lot really.
Won;t be parked in carparks etc really as the van will be the runaround, so it will purely be for fun when the weather isn't up to it for the bike.

Edit, Wallop, did look into it for the car + bike, but it was a case of the company was competitive for one but overpriced on the other so worked out more expensive than seperately.
Van is insured via my dads company for my personal use, I'm just added onto his policy. Free motoring rules!

Good idea though.

Think i'm going to tpft my next car will only be worth 2.5k tops and if you break it you can get a fair few quid back so its porbably worth it.

Its up to you whether you want to risk it, your 182 will be worth 5.5K which is worth considering.

5.5k and the rest mate!

If I 100% get the van before I renew then I'll be going TPFT.

Haha good s**t chris!

Makes me laugh how he has an opinion on everything but only experienced a 1.2!
Although his advice on this one is fairly sound.

from what you say go for TPFT. If windscreen covers your only reason to go fully comp I cant see a new one costing you the difference of £500 lol

TBH I would just sell the Clio. I have been in the same position, and the Clio ends up being a pain in the arse instead of worth keeping. If you have the R6 then you have a toy, and the van does the hum drum.

If not, insure tpft if you can accept the possible loss.

And what? I've been on the forums for a while now therefore if someone asks a question on a car I haven't owned I can't give an opinion even though i've read what other people have said about it.

There are some right tits on this forum tbh.

If you are 100% never going to claim for any damage to the 182, then in your situation it is probably worth going TPFT to save a bit of cash. As another member said though, would it not be possible for you to sell the clio and save an even bigger chunk of cash?

This isnt the place for it, but my post was more than justified from what replies I've read from you.
I don't hate you, just makes me laugh!

Its up for sale at the minute, but I don't want to get rid, still love the car!

1235 Fully comp, 500 excess.

811 TPFT 150 excess.

Opinions?

I'm swerving towards the TPFT route because it's 400 less when I won't claim for my car anyways.

If you want my opinion i'd say tpft. As i've previously said you could break your car and not be too much down but if you lose your ncb your nackered for getting the Vee you want.

Providing you don't hit another vehicle you can't lose with tpft unless your extremely unlucky and it gets burn or stolen but chances are low.
