Track car advice PLEASE

My dad and i are thinking of a track car project, we have a clio 1.2 shell left form when we broke the car, would it be worth doing a 172 engine conversion or just scrap it and buy a tatty 172 for around £1k?

Im doing a similar thing at the minute, got myself a "tatty" phase1 172 needs a front bumper and tailgate, but on the plus side its had a new engine recently. Ive just done the front and rear brakes and a couple of other small jobs but im already loving it, going to start stripping it very soon and sort out the suspension (eibach springs)

Ah yes, but they now have a minter for £1750.

They could have bought an average Ph1 (which would still have been sh1t) and ended up spending 1500+1500
