would anyone recommend getting insurance for the renaultsport trackday?

I phoned my insurers (Liverpool Victoria) and asked about track days and they said they wont insure for them. However as you imply the exclusions include Racing, pacemaking, speed trials ..... since we arent timed I guess that means I am insured.
Big risk tho if they argue the point after a prang. Thanks for the advice I will go back to Liv Vic...
As I said - very expensive and crap cover. I couldnt afford to do trackdays if I had to pay an extra £150 for insurance every time! Fair play to those who can though.Quote: Originally posted by Liftnub on 09 June 2004
Ive taken out cover for my first track day as I dont know what to expect. I got it from Egger Lawson and it cost £150 for £13000 cover with £1300 excess. It covers me and another driver for anything that happens on the track.
Im at Castle Combe on 30/06...is that when youre there?Quote: Originally posted by oldman on 08 June 2004
Spammy was asking on my behalf.
The track day is at Castle Combe and is not timed, then there is the Renultsport one coming up in July and again that isnt timed. Did it ? What happened ? I missed that ?Quote: Originally posted by telford_mike on 09 June 2004
Trackday organisers are getting very good at spotting idiots these days. Briefings are very thorough, and everyone knows where and how they are allowed to overtake. People who ignore the rules get black-flagged and sent home. This happened to at least 2 drivers at Pembrey last weekend (Caterham R500 and Porsche 944 Clubsport).

I got a quote from Competition Car Insurance, and for £11,000 cover with £1,100 excess it was £134!!!
I know theres a risk, but like Mike says, there can be an awful lot more risk during normal day-to-day driving, so Im not going to bother with it.
My insurers, Elephant, specifically quote "track days" as an exclusion too

Problem is though you have to pay £1450 before you can get anything repaired! And thats a fair few panels.
Theres always the old " drag the car out onto the main road trick"

To give you an idea of cost it often is more to insure the car than the track day its self.
Castle Combe is an open circuit, loads of run off. Dont bother. Same with Snett and Bedford and of course other airfield tracks.

Loads of runoff so long as you go off on the inside........if you even approach the outside at speed your pretty much gauranteed to hit a wall.
