Track Days over the Summer

Hi All, Im new here and I think if it comes down to the Renault Sports Club and u lot, I choose ClioSport.

Anyway after selling by MK1 Clio 1.2 I am the new owner of a MK1 Clio RSI, 1.8 come on!

The only time I dare drive it hard is on the motorway and yet its very hard keeping it at seventy as as soon as I floor it, Im up to 110mph no probs.

Anyway Id like to keep my license a lot longer as it aint clean

But Id like to take my driving onto a track where I can go as fast as I like.

Ill be in Sheffield over the summer, so is there a nearby track I can go to or are there track days organised here at Cliosport which is really what Im after, a thrash in our Clios

I know there is a trip to belgium but I think Id rather save my money and go to track days over car shows, i.e. Santa Pod etc.

P.S. Anyone else here own an RSI, I find if you floor it in third when you just think it hits peak, it goes further?I assume its the best gear. Im probably gonna opt for a Stage 1 Hillpower conversion until I can offord a stage two, any comments?Is Hill Powers Cat replacement quiet?

Track days are a personal pref, its a bit short notice but there is a HUGE track day at Castle Coomb this month on the 26th. A few of us are going and its top fun.

How much extra are you paying for a track day on your insurance Ben?

Will you lot be doing any others, as Im well up for a rag with other Renaults, but Im assuming it wont just be a Renault Day that day, right?

Telford Mike, Im planning all my mods for my RSI and not concentrating on my studies

But Im gonna sort membership out for Cliosport next week as you lot sound like a top bunch of lads and well into your Clios.

I have to say though I wont feel the slightest bit content about going on the track until my cars been Lowered, had a stage 1 HP conversion and a short shift Gear stick

Then Ill feel happier about ligning up with a 172 or a valver at least

I think at the end of the day, a track day will be an excellent idea. I know some are going to Germany right, but there are those of us who are still stuck in miserable Britain and we need to make the most of our Summer.

A lot of people will agree with me here in that they would like to see what there car can and cant do and reaslistically the safest way to do that is on the track and not on the road where you risk loosing your licence, your car and maybe even your life!

But a track day where there are just Clios and no Skylines/Ferraris, I mean how intimidated/scared must you feel with them on the track?

lol...dont worry about it.

I go to the CCC action days and tehre is everything from MGAs to novas, to skylines and several race series cars. THere is a novice session to those who are new etc.

I used to go in my MK1 XR2 when it was near bog standerd and that only pushed out 90bhp. Still passed a saph cossie and a Porsche 964. Not to mention stuff which dont matter really.

Its all fun, more about you and your car than anybody else out.

From the sounds of it I completely forgot about York Dragstrip and was just thinking about Santa Pod which is quite a way from Sheffield.


There seems to talk about a few Sheffield/Chesterfield members and too be honest someone might aswell group you all together and go down in a convoy to York on day and give it a good trashing. It was actually the dual carriage way that takes you from Sheffield too Chesterfield via Norton that I got 110mph outta my RSI safely as there was no 50 and not cams.

I reply to your msg Craggy, I watch all the dragstrip vids at UNI in the labs when there on. By the way Cliosport ought to have a VIDEOS SECTION as I think it would be ideaql, rather than searching endlessly through threads.

What Im saying is Craggy, I ve seen the VTS vs 172 Vids, there quality, but Ill be realistc about it I wont stand a chance after the mods, but I like to see what the difference is.

Sursprisingly there are more valvers around but Im sure some people under estimate the RSI.

I think the day I take a VTS or at least stand a good chance is when I go for the Stage 2 HP conversion, which is a little pricey at the mo and just have to settle with what Ive got, but Its nice to know I have a car with plenty of under bonnet modding potential, non of that turbo melarki!

When you do race, can you choose who you race against, so its slightly fair, or do they have categories, 1.6 etc?

Say I ran against members in Cliosport with a Stage 1 runnin about 120bhp, have a got any chance against a valver?

I think whatever though, Id rather find out on the strip rather than on the road, at least its safe and legal

you race whats there mate, as really ur racing against urself, but a nice grudge match is always good, im runnig standard lump with de-cat and ind kit
