Track / road car

Car  1*4 phhslow
Hi i have my clio 1.4 what at the moment had a force fed induction and lowerd on spax coils errrmmm..
Basically i am after some knowledge into track racing and what would be a start into getting it to go round the track ??
in one bit lol apart from staying on the tarmac lol
i have a list i brought up just going through k-tec for what is available and i would like to no what maybe i need and dont need as such.

Road/Race cage
sports cat exhaust
re/map
front/rear strut brace
coilover kit
quickshift short throw
uprated clutch
big brake conversion

Hmm. On a 1.4? I wouldn't bother. But if you do, tyres, suspension and brakes will be of far more benefit than tiny amounts of extra power.

Track tuition is also a great way to improve your driving, as most people, myself included, are no way near the car's actual abilities.

I'd just stick it out until you can insure a Ph1 172, as they can be had for less than £3k now and make excellent track car bases.
 
For track days, you nedd tuition, will be far more effective than anything you could put on the car
 
yeah i was thinking about just going for a 172 been thinking about it for a while just havent found a nice one i like yet ..
so basically i would be wasting my money getting anything untill i get a sport then i can make it a little bit more interesting
 
Exactly.

A fairly tidy Ph1 172 (less than £3.5k for a 70k miler) and some good track tuition is this way to go. It would be if i were you.
 
Buy a shed is my advice, to get this to where it is now cost about 3300 pounds, plus the car.

Brakes and suspension first, seats and cage, harnesses, then some uber 888's, take all the weight out and off you go. Forget power its for puffs, this can get round the nurburgring in under 9 minutes.

and be prepared for only having one car as your daily drive and track car, I have another but I couldn't put up with the pain of driving the bmw everyday, harnesses on and off everytime, clambering out like a knob, and having to open the door to wind the window down, plus no sound deadening or stereo, gets annoying
 
lol yea its all them little bits you dont think about i just found a 2000 clio 172 for 2.100 but its done 114,770 miles is that to many ?
 
Chris172cups car has done more miles than the starship enterprise, and half of them on the Nordscheife, if its well looked after it'll be ok.
 
id wait till you get a better car. you'll most probally be really disapointed with your 1.4 as it will be nothing compared to an rs.
 
the only thing is the styling of the older models i like my trianle lights compared to the old round ones , that 2100 pound clio is totally standerd also thats a bonus also
 
Ph1's are the better driver's car. Ignore the styling, although i actually prefer it.

For once, can't fault the monkeys logic.
Took mine (not standard) out at bedford and embarissed some far more expensive machinery.
 
hmm its just selling mine i feel no one would want mine lol as its lowered , with k&n , also i have 1 fag burn hole in front seats and a smashed front fog light all these things to fix and such before i feel i could sell it to anyone
 
True, good vid of him pulling away from a 172 on an airfield day. Think he said he was lapping the ring quicker than most of the 172's as well.
 
Was at Bedford (wet) and the R26 was destroying the R27, I had no idea they had so much traction. Destroyed me as well. Was surprised by how much.
 
Like i said fella, get a Ph1 for peanuts, full service, take weight out, buy some new pads and job done.

Cheap fun.

Would you put cage above brakes, suspension, seats? I've got it down as one of the last things to do.

Expensive, and tempting to leave until last but it's important and an absolute must if you have buckets and harnesses.

My track prep'd Cup will be up for sale this eve (has all the above ;) )

Why? I've been told by several people not to use a cage'd car on the road, normally the hard points in a car are covered (to lessen impact if your head smacks them in a crash).
