Trackday tyres

  172 cup, Impreza P1
What would make the best track tyres that will only be used on track. Something like R888's or an actual slick or moulded slick. The slicks seem to be around £60 for a 16" whereas an R888 is around £125.

Would you get enough heat into a slick with coilovers?

I doubt that! Proper slicks would be mega bucks!

If you're only using them on track then yeh, slicks would be ideal. BUT....you would be knackered if it was wet.

Just go for 888s or A048s.

And get 15" wheels too if you're serious about going on track too.

A Michelin 18/62 16 S4B racing slick from online motorsport is £60.

There does seem a big difference in tyre prices from 15" to 16".

Might have to switch if the group buy on pro race 1.2's goes ahead.

I'll get a cage eventually but until I do looks like it'll be the R888's then. Cheers for the info guys!

Try Hankook rs2's. Fair bit cheaper. Might be worth a shout, I enjoyed them.

Been offered 4 Hossier grooved slicks for £160 brand new in 205 45 R16's.

Worth a shot or not?

Spoke to others about slicks on trackdays and they say there is no requirement for a cage but I may have trouble with fuel and oil surge. Anyone running baffled sumps?

You might not be let on some trackdays with slicks... some dont mind but its the tracks discression.

plus as said, if its wet you are funked.

I'd look at something like the rs-2, R1R,Advan 008, Kumho V70's etc... yes they cost more but they are fine on track ime (spanked rs-2's round llandow on a stupidly hot day and they gripped well and didnt die at all, and llandow is evil on tyres)

ftr, hoosier tyres are fantastic and hard to get in the UK, so take them!! lol (where from?)

I've got 3 set of wheels for the car. 2 x sets of turinis and now a set of PR 1.2's so can take the slicks and another set if its going to be wet.

Thought £160 was a good deal but if I cant use them anywhere whats the point. Knockhill is my closest track so thats where they will be used (hopefully)!

Might just get them in the off chance as for 4 they are nearly the same price as 1 R888!

for the £160 you will pay, you'd be able to shift them for that or more so its not really an issue in that respect.

17" and 15" track rubber is much much cheaper than 16/14" stuff :( :)
