Tracker vs. Trackstar vs. None

dk

  911 GTS Cab

Has anybody added a Tracker Unit or the RAC Trackstar unit on a 172/V6?

Do people think they are worth it, and which one is the best, am thinking of adding one to the 182 when I get it for peace of mind, not Insurance reasons. They both cost about £900 for life membership.

Just not sure whether it is worth it or not?

cheers

DO you know which version of the Tracker you get for the £900? Theres the Retrieve, Monitor or Horizon?

Definately worth it, for piece of mind more than anything else! I suppose it depends on the area you live. We have one on our Astra - its not a bad area really, but it does attract the complete wrong attention so its nice to know if it ever moves well know about it within a couple of minutes :)

The £900 is cheaper than Tracker quote with lifetime membership too :)

we fit them at work and tbh unless you live somewhere with a high crime rate i wouldnt bother. they are expensive you have to pay the subscription on top of the cost of the unit and fitting and the chance of it actually being used are slim. insurance dont normally give much of a discount for it being fitted and then there is the issue would you really want the car back after some toerag has abused it and in some cases damaged it leaving you to be given a repaired car back. on a 40/50k + car i would probably fit one but on most its just not worth it if you have a cat1 alarm immobilisor fitted

Im not sure "how" true it is - but when ever i hear the word "tracker" people always say that once parked in the back of a HGV transporter - a tracker cant pick up the signals anyway. So by the time you have logged the call - your motor on its way across seas. If thats the case, then £1000 is not really decent money spent.

Can anyone put the record straight on these stories?

Cant see why something operated from GPS would stop working on the back of a transporter?

172loony - renault fit the tracker with lifetime subscription thrown in so no extra cost. Like I said, its all piece of mind. I wouldnt pay for it for my Williams, but the Astra is one of a kind that we built ourself, so its worth more to us than to anyone else :)
