traction control. .. . .on or off?

  Clio182, Mini Cooper 1275
Woo hoo! just been out on the country roads of essex and suffolk and turned the traction control off, wow what a difference!. . . .anyway im going back out. so the question, is yours on or off?

Well... if you have traction control on.. its on, and if you turn it off... its off?

I'm pretty sure thats the difference but i may well be wrong, being a renault it may even be the other way round or the button might just not work at all.

Off for me, I find on the limit when I go too far, I've already corrected it myself, then the TC kicks in and sends me the opposite way. Seems very delayed.

It's good for someone like my mum, but for anyone who knows a few things about car control I think it's a bit rubbish really. Makes a huge difference too!

to be honest, i've never noticed a great deal of diference between on or off.
if you drive smoothly it will not often cut in, but basically if you start to spin up a wheel it cuts the power for a moment.

but agreed with pepsi, definately off for track work. but on the road i nirmally just leave it on.

I usually have mine one (standard when you start your car)... I really think the ESP (not traction control at all) does fit the car. I does not cut power too early, but only when you drive it on slippery roads with too much right foot. (or through corners when the inner wheel starts spinning).

It did actually activate only one time...coming from the highway, felt the back end coming around and the ESP handled nicely. Don't know if I have had the car spinning if the ESP did not jumped in.

Anyway 99% it's on as I use my 172 as a daily driver. Sometimes when I have a little play I switch it off, but I think switching it off for normal driving is useless.

I don't bother turning it off unless I know I'm gonna push the car, not that it makes any difference anyways.

Everytime i forget to turn it off and it cuts in I get angrier about not buying a 172 cup!

I just leave it on for now. It's a safety net that I'm yet to feel chime in...the TC is welcome on Scottish B-roads at this time of year where the amount of lumps and bumps in combination with wet surfaces make the Clio quite a handful at times.

Happy to drive with it off as I'm relatively confident, but given that it's there and doesn't often make it's presence known I am happy to leave it on just in case.

Doesn't make you any more of a man turning it off, especially if you end up running out of talent.

I think mine must be broke then! when leaving juctions on damp/greasy roads you don't feel it hold back like the tcs did on my cooper, so i now have learnt to pull away a lot slower and then when underway accelerate harder(ish)

If i'm pootling or normal driving, i have it on.

If i'm going to push, i switch it off... it's too clumsy IMO

I used to hate that on my old Mondeo...forget it's on, set yourself up for a roundabout, get the line through right, start bringing the power in driving for the exit then cough-cough, fuel starvation.

My Cup could do with it right now tbh. 2 degrees out side, damp gritted roads and only just legal track tyres mean half throttle in the first 3 gears is enough to send me hedgewards. Keeps you awake!

Agreed...the R' goes into 'kangaroo' mode when pressing on if the wheels start to spin up a little, traction light comes on and at times can be more of a danger than help..

Off for me, purely because it wasnt fitted in my 1998 R Reg Mark 1.

Quite a weird thing in the temp corsa when you go for it in a roundabout it starts to go all weird and causes a fishtail.

interesting stuff, i would agree that it can be more of a hinderance at times, im gonna leave it off and see what happens. . . . . . . . the stig would turn it off right? ha ha
