Traction Control - Yay or Nay?

Would you leave it on or turn it off?

Opinions please :)

I always used to turn it off, then realised that it rarely ever intervened.

I'd say it's a little more aggressive in the 197 than it was in the 182 though.

There's very little point turning it off, as even on the 197 the threshold for it doing anything is very high. Even on track it rarely chips in, unless you're going sideways, or coming out of a tight bend and lighting up the fronts. I'd leave it on and see if it actually kicks in at any point. If not then leave it there. It may come in handy at some point.

I just leave it on. If I'm on a track where it intervenes then I turn it off. Oh and sometimes in the wet or on snow I turn it off as it has a habit of making pulling away harder than just regulating your foot correctly.

Took my mate a ride in my car now I've lowered it (he drives an Imprezza P1)

His comment was "f**k me, this thing handles!!!"

ive got a mk4 golf with traction control makes quick pullaways a pain in the arse.
I would turn it off personally.
 
I kept in on round combe, and the only place it interfered was coming out of the chicane where the fronts were sliding a bit.

I'd rather leave it on than turn it off, get into a bit of trouble and wish I'd left it on.

personally i'd leave it off aslong as its not raining. Although whom as i to judge i dont have traction control

Can't make it come on in my 182, unless the wheels try to spin up on tight corners :(

On mine when it does interfere it means I'm going to far for the car. I like to have it off depending on the condition as I can tell what the front wheels is doing more clearly and learn from it next time round.

Turn mine off everytime i get in the car, its the first thing i do, just as important as wearing my seatbelt.

Hate all that electronic wizardry - drive it properly.

Hmm bit of a hero??

I'd rather that little bit extra safety when driving on wet back roads at night etc..if the wheels spin up it might actually save you and or your passengers life as it may have stopped you going through the fence, down that grass verge onto the railway line or the likes.

When not on the limit it doesn't make a huge amount of difference on a dry track (IMO).

+1^ alan, defo got a point too many people think they are lewis hamilton and turn off the TC. If you take the car on a track with good run-offs then turn it off because you have room for error but just driving around from day to day there really is no point your just asking for trouble. I kept the TC on at nurburgring this year and it saved me from smashing the car into the barrier

You could of asked if it was worth driving round the track with ur cruise control on and then we all could of had a good laugh!

I love all the "heroes" in this thread. Unless you are driving like a c**k and throwing the car around or overdriving you won't even know the car has it 95% of the time.

As you said at Bedford Mark, being smooth is the key, and that's why I was able to leave the ESP on without it ever cutting in. Even out of the first corner hair pin a little right foot control and there's no wheel spin so no ESP cutting in.

Did you get the video off the camera?

Yes Rob, except ABS obviously.

i always have mine turned on, but i did find at the track time at the FCS i switched it off as it was way too intrusive and was doing my nut in.

theres no point what so ever to turn it off on the road.

Your wheels are designed to slip when cornering (one will go faster then the other!) I do understand its hard to turn off a aid that you may regret when driving into a wall but when u think you can leave ur layer of rubber on the apex.

It depends how I'm driving, but overall I reckon it has a lower threshold for chipping in. You had to put effort into getting it to come in on the 182s. It's still rare I see the light flash though. If it does it tends to be a slightly eratic exit from a wet roundabout, booting it with a load of understeer. :eek:

I wonder if that's because the car has such huge amount of grip that if you have exceeded them you're in the s**t. lol

Yeah i fully agree with that...

I came out the petrol station last night, the roads had been dry all day but then with a slight drizzle and fuel that'd been spilt i managed to spin it
into 3rd no problem and get it sideways on the roundabout at less than 30mph lol...who said FWD cars couldn't drift lol..

Not trying to be a hero just dont like it never have never will. And trust me if the wheels ever did spin up id rather my chances of catching it myself than the tc trying to sort it out. Just not a fan thats all, each to there own. Just the way I was taught to drive (the family used to own a rally school and my father is an ex british historic rally championship winner) id rather switch it off. I am pleased the car has it though for when my girlfriend drives it, it can come in useful for that.
