traction control

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
my 2001 renaultsport clio has no traction control switch, the only button down there(left hand side behind keys) dims the dash. i think my dealer told me a porkie n said it was allways on but its kinda wet up here now and ive had a few wheels spins. Any ideas ?

the dealer's telling you porkies.. I haven't got the switch either, which means its not on the car.

When you turn the key you'll see a yellow traingle warning light with a skidding card draw inside if it has ESP. not sure if it will have?

late 172's (53plate onwards) had ESP aka traction control

early mk2 172's don't, just ABS

Cup has No ABS, no Traction control, no leather, thinner glass, fancy suspension, fancy wheels

it 89kg lighter than the 172 "full fat" and MUCH quicker

so ive got a fat missile with abs? ok i can live with that.......................................4now

ESP is better than standard traction control. but like you have been advised, no swtich means no ESP.

maybe at track days yeah, but for a safety net when you are driving home, tired, cold and wet its great. Surely?

ESP is the crapest system there is, nearly killed me at Brands
So did having no ABS etc in the cup at Oulton.
Although maybe nothing could have helped you other than better tyres and a lighter right foot.
I'd prefere a car with ABS etc even if you cannot switch it of for track days.

my mate has a 02 172 with no switch but it does have a triangle with skidding car on the dash, does this mean he has no traction control? Is it an import??....it has no etching on the windows and no alarm sensors on the inside pillars. On the dealers check list it says it is not an import, If it is , does he have grounds to take it back and demand his money back??

Views would be much appreciated

my mk1 (2002 model) got no traction control.

by the way, ESP isn't traction control. traction control cuts the engine power when the ABS sensors feels wheels spinning when steping on the gaz pedal.

ESP suposed to keep the car on the same track without spinning when you do aggressive manoeuvre. it's works with braking each wheel separatly for very shory period of time.

the ESP on the Ferrari's looks good :p like the f430 for crapy drivers :p.. i only worry about ICE :)

This is gonna be such a stupid question and i expect abuse but does ESP make your tyres last longer?

No abuse from me!

I would expect so but if you were driving that hard without it, you would probably end up in a ditch and therefore you would'nt have to worry about the tyre's
