Trade insurance policy

Car  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
Hi there,

for our business (Estate Agency) we have a policy with zurich, on this we have 3 cars,

My bmw, a audi a3 dsg and a new mini

the policy allows any driver with a full licence to drive any of the cars but only those cars, no age restriction etc.. but we are paying over £3000 per year for this... which imo is shite.

now the mini is going and my younger bro (19) wants somthing else instead, i also have the clio as a second car and he has a mrk1 clio as a second car, my dad who works for us has a ML jeep and my mum has a a4 cab.

sooo, i was thinking about a trade policy where we can drive any car, fully comp and list the employees on that poilcy.

so i could drop my clio policy etc and drive on that one.

as a company we have 1 year NCD.

would this work? who is best to speak tooo?

Cant recomend a broker but the best deals to be had on these policies involve restricting driver age to over 21s, and for some cars over 25s. Not sure how old you are Ben but your age, and certainly your brothers, could be causing the high premiums

Ben is 17yrs old.

I had a trade policy for years when I had my garage and never claimed but when I moved to personal policy they halfed my NCD for no logical reason and some insurers even refused to recognise it.
I seem to recall it being reasonably cheap (about £900) too for myself and business partner and both wives to drive any car but all was restricted to over 25s only, age is a major risk factor.

A 'Trade' policy which allows named drivers to drive any vehicle would be for a motor trader and although you could technically take one of these policies out it would be likely to be very expensive with young drivers named. Also, in the event of a claim, they may ask you to produce proof of trading i.e. an invoice.

A fleet insurance, like the one it seems your car is currently insured on is a safer bet, usually only available to businesses with 4 or more cars (but some insurers will accept less). Also, family fleets are available, but alot will ask you to disclose if any young drivers will be on the policy and charge high premiums as a result.

However, i'm sure if you search and enquire for long enough and thoroughly, you'll come across a policy suitable and at the right price. it's out there somewhere!
