Transmission from 2nd to 3rd

  350Z
Hi guys,

I have an 02 172 with 82k on the clock, recently I've noticed a gearbox issue, to explain:

Sometimes when shifting it gets stuck just as I'm about to slot into 3rd, I then have to either wiggle the gear stick slightly or drop down into 4th and then push up.

It seems to happen more on corners, I guess that's just because I've got used to it whilst going straight so I've formulated a pattern in my head to get round it, however I'm not following this pattern whilst cornering!

Every other gear works fine, shifting back into 3rd is also fine, just seems when approaching it from the left that is the problem.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.. As you can undoubtedly see my mechanical knowledge is in the minus figures!!

Cheers

172/182 boxes aren't the best feeling anyway its like pushing it through wet concrete! if you haven't owned it long you need to get used to it and shift up slowly and carefully not ram it in as they don't like it...

Other things could be worn dogbone mount, old gear oil or syncros/selectors on the way out! Personally i would powerflex bush the dog bone(lower gearbox) mount and swap out the gear oil and see how it goes then.

I am gentle with her, It just seems to hit this barricade every now and then!

I've been told it could be the gear links on the way out.. think I'll just take her to K-Tec soon, just wanted to know if anyone had experienced a similar issue.

Thanks for your help though :)

Won't be the linkage.

Maybe the spring on the selector arm becoming softer? That helps locate the stick between 3rd and 4th..

Difficult to say.. feels like a balance of both. I'll keep an extra keen eye on when it occurs most.

Might be driver related. Had a similar issue when shifting from 2nd to 3rd in left handers. Make sure that you don't force the lever in one move diagonally forward. The best way is to give it two inputs forward.
