Trip computer prob

hello just a little annoying prob im having with my trip computer as when im selecting to see how much miles I can get out of the tank im just getting aload of dashes??? I have taken it to my garage and he says he can't find any faults with the car whatsoever. Please help me.

The dashes appear when the car reaches a point where there is only 35miles or less left in the tank. Any point before this, IE 1.4 full or 1/2 full should allow you to see the miles. So this sensor that im assuming is in or near the fuel tank might need checking out.
