Trophy.. 1st gear??

  Twin Scroll Impreza STI
I've been driving 10 years now and the Trophy is the first Fwd car I've had with power. My first car was an Orion which I think had just over 110bhp. After that I was lured into 4wd and forced induction. Pulsar, celica, scooby, diesel as I Bought my first house, another scooby, Evo and now the trophy.

I'm used to planting the loud peddle and away we go! no drama just grip.

I'm unsure if my trophy is behaving properly, 1st gear seems pointless for anything other than getting you started. It doesn't matter were in the rev range I put my foot down it just lights up the front wheels and give that hopping feeling.

I've reduced the tyre pressures to 28 at the front and 27 at the rear, this made no difference.

I've tried feeding the power in slowly but its pretty hopeless and ultimately results in wheel spin.

Does everyone else's car do this as well?

Yep my 182 done and my 197 does it too mate...1st gear will light up the fronts no problem at all in any condition..

Yes and i really recommend you stop as it will destroy the gearbox.

This time of year doesn't help being dead slippy... When its warmer and dry you can get them to really hook up, just got to have the skill.;)

Hmm... how about my other issue then..

3/4 to full lock, start to move off. the car feels very odd. I'm not sure how to expalin this tbh. It's like its understeering at 3mph.

Is the tracking out.? maybe to much toe out

most do that... only thing i found that wouldnt do it was Eagle F1's... but now i'm on GSD3's... it's doing it again.

yes, however you can still use it to good effect. As already mentioned there is a skill to doing it, not too much gas at once and knowing when there is enough grip available to plant it.

Most FWD cars are the same.

All 182's with 205 width tyres do it. My 172 cup with 195'd did it, but not to the same extent. They are too wide for the short wheel base of the car imo. The trade off is better grip in normal driving though ;)

BTW... NEVER done it on 195's

EDIT: GAZ bet me to it

I seem to get this on full lock? It makes a giddering noise? How much grip you got left on your tyres??

Exactly.

This sounds condescending but isn't meant to; press the loud pedal less.

With only the front two wheels being driven, you've got far less traction available compared to 4WD, so there's not so much for you to use.

If you're wheelspinning, you are simpy asking the front tyres to do more than they're capable of doing.

They are all maybe 3/4 worn. But i have 2 brand new ones in the shed that came with the car. I think they are the factory fit ones as well.

in the dry I can plant it and get 100% grip - no problem.

or maybe thats a stupid thing to say? lol

Have you adjusted the front dampers at all? could yours be set softer causing it to reduce/stop the bounce effect.

To be honest i dont know anything about the front shocks on this car, i havent had suspension like that on any car i've owned.

nope the pin mod has not been done I don't believe. As I say I could get the same results in a cupped 182. Just improve your launch technique matey ;)

You might find it's the limited-slip diff. The clios I've driven do it too, and it's no way the tyres. Feels completely different. It's not harming you or the car though :)
