Had the Trophy for a few weeks now, but haven't shown it off yet so I thought I may as well start a thread!
Some of you may recall that I had a 106 Rallye that was one of the best condition ones around, so getting rid of it was quite emotional! I'd grown really attached to its no-nonsense approach to delivering its drive, but it had 130k on its original 8v and I fancied a change. It sold within three days of putting its advertisement on Pistonheads, so the hunt for a new weekend/dry weather car was on. I'd contemplated a DC2, a DC5, an EK9, and even a VX220 as a wildcard but ultimately went where my heart was and found a lovely Clio Trophy.
A few days after the Rallye drove away, I was the proud owner of #490. I've been fortunate enough to drive every notable hot hatch due to my work, but there's still something truly memorable about how a Trophy attacks a great road and in my opinion it's one of the all-time greats. The Yorkshire Dales is on my doorstep, and up there it's a formidable thing.
It's got a Milltek exhaust, a new steering wheel as the original was showing the usual signs of wear (surprise, surprise), and its belts have just been done. Its dampers feel fine when driving, but they're yet to have a refurb so they're going to be done within a few weeks too, just for peace of mind.
Since buying it, the obligatory silver visions have gone in, some new Renaultsport mats have freshened up the interior, and I've had a new windscreen fitted as there was an annoying chip right down the middle. Friday will see it having a service, an air con re-gas, and some new Eibach springs fitted. I am after some xenons too, so if anybody's selling any, drop me a PM!
Anyway, here are a few photos:
