Trophy-Advice Needed!!!

Now then,
Thinking about px'ing my Cup 172 against a Trophy and have arranged a test drive... Is it worth making the switch? How much should I be aiming to pay?

Given that the salesman didn't know "which colour the demo car would be"???!!! I don't think Ill get much sense from him, so any advice would be appreciated!!

I know. He also offered me a test drive in a standard 182 saying "the only difference is the seats and wheels".
He seemed a little shocked when I explained some of the other differences...

I have to agree. The dealer in Portsmouth I got my Trophy from didn't know they were indivdually numbered...

The cup spec and cup options seens to be difficult enough without adding in the trophy spec!! lol.

Ringing round dealers to see what stock they had was quite amusing!!!

Agreed. I feel really sorry for the average consumer just there to buy a car and they get given all these details that may well be wrong. My local dealer tried to sell a friend of my mums the wrong phase Clio once! She bought a ph2mk2 and he handed her the keys to a ph1! Luckily the minute I saw it I frogmarched her back to the showroom and made him give her a mk2 with a/c
for nothing extra

i remember going into the nottingham renault dealer and a guy there said that the new trophy had the same suspension as the cup!

i couldnt believe what he was saying.

also said that i were to buy a new one the discount given off the list price would maybe be the cup spoiler pack! £170 quid off, what a deal!

I own a Trophy so does that make my opinion biased???

If you fancy a new car, like what you see on the Test drive, get a good part ex offer on yours, and can negotiate about a £13k price for the Trophy then do it.

I went from a 306 Gti-6 to the Trophy and i love it.

I own a trophy too and have had 3 172's before - but no cup

for the sake of all the money you would need then don't bother and fit coilovers

BUT the thing about the trophy apart from the suspension is the exclusivity - 500 made and soon a few will be written off etc so in years to come it will become a real desirable car and hold value well. Its been quoted by evo as the best hot hatch ever so IMHO its an investment. Plus any clio meets and trackdays in the future you will own a car that is very desirable.

If the above don't mean much to you and you want one for the driving benefits then dont bother.

Don't know if it'll be worth taking the hit on trade in at effectively peak depreciation time, but in terms of cash price for Trophy, you want to be looking at £13K or below. Arnold Clark were advertising their Trophys on the web for 13, but I think the ad has gone now, as they have flogged all their stock. I managed to sort mine out nice and cheap at the weekend.

Don't know about the difference from your machine, but there is a noticable gap between full fat and cup, and then a little bit extra on the Trophy. I've comprehensively scared youngsters at dealerships while test driving each of them. Turning off the "no fun" computer always makes salesmen nervous

Forgot to mention, I called Dixon motors before I went in to haggle the last few quid off at my stealership. I normally wouldnt touch them with a barge pole, but they are at least sometimes cheap. The guy I spoke to was swearing blind the only "Trophy" was the Meggy 225.
