The Big underneath
has now begun - made great progress today with stripping everything off

Powder coating bits to take on Monday / Callipers same for a total rebuild and paint.

Can someone let me know what colour to do my front subframe - Silver or Black.

Also what colour do I paint the underneath of the car and in the wheel arches and ideas of what to buy.

I'd definitely go black! Any other colour will show up dirt fast and look worse.

@DavidDave recently did all his underside so I'm sure he has some suggestions.

I used pretty much exclusively Bilt hamber products. Key is to remove as much rust from everywhere as possible. It’s a bloody hateful job. Then hydrate80 everything to convert anything that’s left, before hitting it with electrox and then epoxy mastic, I chose black personally. You can then cover with the underseal or topcoat of choice. It’s all detailed in my build thread. It’s now the second clio I have done this to. Wouldn’t want to do it again in a hurry, but you do seem to have a ramp.

Thanks Dave - I’ll read your thread

How’s life in the Motor trade for you - hard work for us at the moment.

I was at HPI Cap Leeds last week for a meeting - Darren Martin spoke to us about market predictions for 2022

We are doing ok. Numbers are obviously well down broadly due to new car supply. But despite some of the negative news you see from the usual industry commentators the last few weeks have been very, very strong performance wise. Just the bottom end/cheapies that seem to be a real struggle at the minute or any car that requires work. We are certainly not seeing an alignment in the market outside of that, for what you would usually see as seasonal trends

Silver ftw😆. Still looked tidy when I was under the car the other week. Or do it trophy pink👍.

I want what looks standard so Trophy pink is off the menu - yours looks cool all built up - was it powder coated

I had to replace a couple of riv nuts which needed bare metal covering so slapped a bit of hammerite on it, and got carried away. I was shocked at how well it looked after tbh and it won't chip and rust like powder coat will.

Where’s the best place to buy these bolts from - never new they where so much money

Front calliper carriers bolts
Rear ale to body bolts (Though floor - long) x4 plus 6 nuts
Front subframe mounting nuts x4
Rear axle to stub axle nuts and bolts
Rear axle to hanger bolts plus nuts (Through bush)
Front shocks to hub bolts and nuts x4

I then need the below parts ready for the re-build

Rear main oil seal
Gearbox end casing
Lower arm fixings
2 x Rear heat shields - if anyone has any for me to buy let me know

Thanks in advance for your help

Nick

Thought I'd take the advantage of collecting my powder coating and brake calliper's today in an electric van having spent so much on No63 - every little saving helps HaHa.

Not quite like glass but very happy with the results

Also this is as good as I can get my exhaust without painting it - hopefully it will be ready for CSF22.

Hi Louis

Callipers have been done by SSL Autoparts in Wakefield

Powder coating was done by Pegasus in Milnsbrige Huddersfield

Exhaust was me and took a whole week - my office now looks a right s**t tip with splash marks all over the walls.

I’ve acquired today some mint front window rubbers as mine had started to bubble very slightly - they are £150 per side new from Renault - ouch. Also some other bits and bobs as spares.

A bit more progress today with the rear axle now fitted - powder coating not perfect however it's not a rusty mess anymore either.

All new Trophy suspension at the back now fitted plus bushes and bolts that will hopefully now make her drive like she did in 2005.

Subframe now to build up and put back on early next week -but I’m just waiting for a new radiator to turn up.

The new top mounts look stunning I think however I did clean up my old ones as I didn’t realise I had some.

I’ve now got a empty boot which is good news.

The sub-frame is now built up and just waiting for the new radiator to be fitted - also one of the new rear brake pipes needs to be fitted

Thoughts on the wheel arch colour/protector please - I think it looks good
but I'm open to criticism

Also the rest of the new screws need fitting to the sills

If anyone can help I need the last two pieces of the Jigsaw for No63 to make it a complete original car

I need the rear and centre Exhaust Heat shields - Or ideas how to make them or who makes them.

Help appreciated

I’m really not sure Russ - I’d love it to be so you can all pull it to pieces and give me some advice on how to make it better but let’s see if we have any snags this week - also I’d really like to meet some of you Guys in person.

Can I Say It’s really been hard work bringing a 17 year old car back to this condition and with parts not easy to fine now I’ll not be doing any more in my life time - definitely a good idea at the time but I’m now 15months in and not sure.

Last posts from me regarding No63 - it’s finished really - just the inside of the bonnet painting and a buff. ( maybe just one then when it’s totally done)
It’s now parked in my garage for the first time having just brought it home - it really does drives like new - Even Sam and Mick from parkside garage who have done the work said it to me when I got there this afternoon, they where both very impressed having both gone out for a spin.

MOT’d today with a clean pass - wouldn’t think anything else having had everything new fitted.

Can I say once again thanks for everyone’s help and support you really are a great bunch for Guys - never been in a forum before as it was not my cup of tea I thought ( also I’m crap at English/spelling but good at Maths HaHa).

Thanks Again

Nick

This is just next level Nick!

There's a lad from up near us with a trophy as well. Was speaking to him at CSF on Saturday😅

It’s come on from when you used to see it abandoned in Brighouse/Bradford - even though I’ve done loads to it it’s still a genuine standard car that’s I’d say is quite rare in the Clio Sport world

Yep that’s him - knowing No63 would not have been done in time for CSF he asked if I needed a lift which was a very kind gesture

Someone pulled up at the traffic lights and told him his car was nice and then said there was one parked up in our Peugeot showroom - so he came to look at mine which is how we met ( sounds like a love story really)

That's absolutely stunning👌. This is by far the best spotted thread on here 😂.

We really should start posting on the forum when we plan to visit The Motorist, this would be appreciated there I'm sure.

Thanks for your kind words - I'm sure I've spoken to you at the Motorist when it was French day - you have a Cup and a Great coloured RS200.
