tuning question

  ITB BG 182
Right i like some have had a clio 182 for a year now an not done anything other than the obvious induction kit and exhaust.
What else should i be looking todo next in the engine bay an how much money am i looking at?
I want the engine bay to look nice but not ott even though that does change in peoples opions but also want the car to maybe handle better and be more responsive and with abit more go-go power (if ya know what i mean harry)

  Clio 172 mk2
Agree with the above..inlet matching would be the logical next step performance wise.

Good gains for the money

move the battery and re-route your induction to tidy up the engine bay. Cost if you do it yourself 200£

inlet match and decat for another £200 for your performance increase

MarkM - that does look mint matey, would you be able to have a higher taken pic of the engine bay.
Think ill be taking the matt thing thats on the underside of the bonnet off soon also.

  182, SRT8, RS4, GT-R
Mark, your engine bay looks mint, love the matt finish. Just looks so much better with the induction kit routed there.

I think you can place these red top batteries on their side so you could have it under the passenger seat in a similar size battery case. Thats what I was thinking of anyways

Small battery in a big box because started with original battery and never bothered to buy a small box when I got my new one. It will get sorted eventually.................

Battery was about £90 from demon tweeks. I havent had any problems with it but they dont recommend using it if you leave your car standing for too long because it gets damaged if you drain it. Saves about 6kg.

So after having an IK and new zorst aswell as port/polish with matchd kit (if the last 2 not the same) then the ecu re-mappd whats would be the next stage?

After that you'll be looking at serious money . Cams , throttle bodies , turbo etc .... = big bucks .

Your probably better off upgrading your brakes to better discs / pads or even your suspension . You'll be able to brake later and get better handling .

Am i ok with just having eibach prolines or would it be better ordering full on suspension systems

Suspension - Eibach Sportlines
Brakes - EBC Green front pads & brake fluid bleed/replacement, possibly upgrade lines too

as above.

not really sure what gains you get on their own, guess it depends on the engine, but when mine had it done with cams etc it made 196bhp, but then I dont think mine's a particularly quick engine when you compare it to the likes of Chris n Nics... as we know, some are pants, some average and some make well over stock power from day one.

... just get bodies and forget about the rest, guaranteed power and porno noise

I agree: I wish I had gone straight to main course, ie bodies, cams ect.
Having said that, maybe Ben's new mod will change the face of Clio tuning as we know it.

What do you think Jesus?

no idea Jack, he's not given me any ideas to what it is, I'm sure he'll explain in due course but I wont have a fookin clue what any of it means tbh, he's far too tech for me even when dumbing things down lol.

tbh as far as Clio's go I've done the cams thing (BenR did these) and was over the moon with the performance, just ask the people that drove it how much of a freak it was with a chip wizards chip on it! That was the first (what I consider anyway) major mod I had I dont regret doing it as the car was insane, torque and power was more than just obvious lol. Now however I've become greedy, partly BenR's fault again after seeing when he built the white clio on ITB's for my mate Clean16v (doesn't come on here at all these days). It wasn't even the performance tbh, it was the noise more than anything, the fact it used to completely piss all over our mate Glen's 300+bhp Audi TT was just a bonus.

Put it this way, I love Clio's for the all round ability and love nothing more than a car that handles well and punches above it's weight and tbh I'll prolly end up with another one even though I try to convince myself otherwise, but when the bridge needs to be crossed and if I do decide to get another I'll be asking Andy to remove the ITB's and all the gubbins off mine to go on the new one as I'm addicted to them. That was the reason I was looking at E36 M3's for so long, all come with ITB's and they are known for being one of the best sounding NA engines you can get... never found a good one, so next it would be an E39 M5 or ITB's on another Clio... or the money though I can have a Clio that out accelerated the BMW, okay, it's not as good a car, but for doing a 12 mile daily commute the Clio is reliable, easy to drive, quiet when it wants to be and returns better MPG than a stock/lightly modded 172. Just for pure bragging purposes I went to see Andy GDI on saturday and drove back and used 1 notch under half a tank for 186 miles exactly... that to me is just incredible... so tuning these engines even lightly does make a difference, you cant always feel it but put it side by side with another RS model and you start to realise how quick they are.

Sorry for the massive post, I just can't describe enough how good ITB's are, save for the handling and looks the engine alone makes this the best most fun car I have had or driven (drive Scooby's a fair bit), all it now needs is to handle as well as the Williams, but that's never going to happen :(

Great to here you have moved up in the world from the williams...Lets hope there is no more williams quicker than a 1?2 rubbish.

Enjoy your car looked good when i saw it at Yozza's.

If you need anyone to drive it let me know....;)

Peace

lol, yup, that's what I do, use my Lloyds then got the MBNA platinum to transfer it onto for the next 9 months, by which time overtime or yearly bonus wipes it off and I can start again... although it never works like that, as I wanted an Xbxo 360, LCD TV... then of course you cant have a TV or 360 without surround... I have no self control... I'd do it though, speaking from experience if you mod a car properly and well it can be a huge difference over std.

thing is my Williams was/is quicker ;) (no really, it flew!). dont miss the reliability, miss the handling though :(

well if Yoz and Fred are at Oulton it will need a better driver than me that's for sure... prolly a few more mods too lol

bring back the evogone/thejesus 'debates'

they were awsome reading :) ;)

lol, i dont own my 182 killing Williams anymore though sadly :(

only need to ask BozM off here how quick it was with 7500rpm limited chip wizards map though... fookin flew that car, think it would have done a high 13 with a remap, easily.

i'm acually scared of the reliability.....!!

have the £££

in all honesty i've had NO issues with mine relating to the ITB setup, had to replace a few sensors (typical reno s**t really), most of the money was spent fault finding and pissing about, but nothing major. Most I've spent is on security for the car (£1500+), but the ITB's themselves have done about 12k and not been an issue and I use this as my only car to get me to work and back every day. Guess a lot could be down to luck I suppose, but then looking at £12k+ of bills excluding buying my Williams I can count that out lol.

Personally I'd say do it, but it's no good me sitting here and telling you how good it is, you'd need to be in the car as it's being given some grief to really understand how quick and nice they sound... video's never do the noise justice thats for sure! People are quick to discredit it as a waste of money, but lets face it, these are the people in standard cars that think an air filter is an engine mod and cant broaden their mind to understand that a car pushing out 220bhp/ton is going to be keeping pace with E46 M3's and the like.

The jesus, agreed! No-one out of the 'real' tuning circle understands the aspect of power to weight ratios. In their eyes a 300bhp american pick up will beat your 200bhp clio simple because its more powerful........

With fred driving you have no worries but Yozza is up to speed though. May well pop down on the 10th and bring my lid....!!!!

The EVOgone will be back with a clio on track soon enough, same principle brakes and suspension only mods so to upset all the tuned engined boys..;)
