I have not seen a Turbine thread on here for a while and it seems the VW Fanbwois seem to be loving them as well now.

While some may argue that Turinis and a Clio are a match made in heaven I do like a bit variety and furthermore it is nice to keep the Turinis in good condition, which somehow mine are for the best part! A shame about the front tyres being on the markers come winter time mind you [/faceplam]. At least they look good

Anyway, I have now acquired a set of these. Some call them turbines, some call them 'fake wheel trims'. I'll let you make your own mind up .

My plan is to acquire some winter tyres and to fit them to the Turbines after they have been painted/refurbished depending on what the costs are looking like (I'll either powdercoat them or paint them if I have the patience). Saying that, the Toyos do seem to work better than Michelins/Contis as a winter tyre!

TBH I cannot picture Red working on an Icebery 172 TBH, but I am willing to be proven wrong. My question to you is what colour would you go with? So far I am thinking Anthracite or Satin Black. Silver IMO would not work but the Iceberg does have a blueish tinge mind you. While I want a good finish I don't wish to spend a fortune either .

To help, here are a few shots, although none seem to be on a 172:

They're a great looking alloy on their own but they need careful matching to a car and a mk2 clio is not a good match!

polished and black all day. i remember my mate having a set on his 5 turbo raider in the same finish. looked amazing on it but not best suited to a mk2 clio imo.

Cheers for the C&C peeps and keep them coming .

The white on Silver actually looks better than I thought I hate to say, possibly usurping the Turinis in the looks stakes!

Those wheels are horrific.

So horrific, they deserve a horrific colour, that way it looks like they're on for a joke.

Purple.

Purple? What a great idea!

They are winter wheels remember, and for if/when the car goes out on loan to a family member. Those Turinis are stupidly easy to kerb with the Clio's steering lock (i.e s**t!), although I think my 306 GTi-6 was worse when turning right. Right hand turns on mini roundabouts required thought with it having a right hand lock bigger than the QE2! How I did not laugh when I fixed a mate's Triumph Dolomite Sprint and loaned him the GTi-6. He brought a town to a standstill being shocked by the lack of lock from a car which almost had a turning circle as good as a London Taxi!

I could eat my Xmas dinner off one centre cap!

What do you have for your Xmas dinner?

When you say Polished and Black I guess you are referring to a two tone finish?

I have to admit that they do suit the older Renaults the best but IMO they are not *too* horrific on a Mk2 in the right colours (I am biased mind you!). They are winter wheels but OTOH with red wheels even with black covers it will look like a circus is coming into town!

I actually think they do suit a Mk2 clio, it's an older Renault now anyway! Painted up (White imo) with no centre cap they look great!

I think the White actually works very well with a MkII Clio, better than I thought!

However they would probably be worth more in Silver! Choices eh? I reckon I'll probably go with either Anthracite/Grey or White.

If I end up keeping the wheels they may become a set of track wheels over the summer/autumn, although when it was pouring down last time at Cadwell the car was certainly showing a few other cars up, despite it having Contis being almost bald on the edges but with 2-3mm in the middle shod with Toyos T1-Rs on the rear with with 12 year old suspension from what I can tell.

I am going to collect them tomorrow. But yes I basically hunted around for them.

Originally I was after a set of OZ F1s but IMO they look a little so so on the Phase 2 Clios, moreso than the Turbines! They also seem to command a premium and are not terribly light from what I understand. Turinis were also out on a similar count and I wanted to go to a 15" wheel. This left the Dynamique wheels or these Turbines. I have liked the look of the Turbines it has to be said and they seem to be a light wheel. I shall be comparing the weight to the Turinis but I doubt there will be any real difference TBH.

So far I have taken a leaf out of your book and left them as they are, in the Red/Orange with the CF effect centre caps!

I have yet to take it out for a drive so we shall see what they are like. I did however weigh 3 wheels with differing tyre combinations ; a stock 172 wheel, 172 Cup Turinis with differing tyres and the Turbines with the Toyo T1-Rs.

I know myself there has been quite a bit of information about these which is conflicting but to settle the score to a degree here were my findings.

15" Turbine with Toyo T1-R ; 14.5-15.0 kg depending on whether it had 4mm on the tyre or the nearly full 8mm.
16" Cup Turini with Conti Sport 5 195/45R16 worn on the limit ; 14.5 kg
16" Cup Turini with 4mm Toyo T1-R ; 15.5 kg
16" 172 wheel with Conti Sport worn on the limit ; 16.5 kg

Not a massive difference but it seems that the Turbine are lighter, but not by much. The Turinis however seem to be a good chunk lighter than the 172 items.

Pics shall come so you peeps can have a laugh .

It seems @ljohny may have owned these wheels after doing some research. Here is what they were like on his.

The pics will come soon but I shall give some feedback. It is a little unfair to compare them to my Turinis since the fronts are bald on the edges but have 2mm in the centre and seem to be cracking between the tread on closer inspection, despite the tyres being of a 2002 vintage.

The car does seem to drive better on these wheels if I am honest. The turn in seems a little sharper and the car just feels a touch more planted everywhere. I would not necessarily say it is a smoother ride by much but it does seem to deal with bumps better ; I am trying for no placebo effect to cloud my judgement!

The car definitely needs lowering with the 15s, but it does seem to drive nicer it has to be said. The other thing to bear in mind is that I can get these refurbished, and fit most decent tyres on for the same price it would cost to get 4 tyres fitted to the Turini as a like for like tyre.

You bought my wheels!!!

I did. As good as the refurbishment was on them, I hope you like them now!

Oh dear they're awful!

To be fair they were a talking point and people did spot me more in town. However it may have also made me more aware of being noticed if I was being cheeky in town!

:tired::mask:

A few colleagues probably agreed!

Anyway, the wheels have changed and it seems I went with the masses. But with the Turinis tyres on the limiters I put them on, and well, they were certainly unique in their look!

As they went off to be refurbished the Turinis went back on. I also went to being mega careful to parking again, part of the reason why I took the Turinis off, as nice as they do look:

Then the Turbines came back. I treated them to some Collinite 476S in an attempt to make them easier to clean:

And then they went back on. They do look a little different!

I'll have to get a shot of them with the centre caps on at some point.
