Turning a standard Headunit into a fascia

Anyone done this? I thought it could be a good idea, to take the face off a old standard headunit and turn it into a fascia for a decent headunit, as it will look as if it is standard. If you leave it with not face on it you know its a good unit as only the better ones have removable fascias. Thoughts on this? Has anyone done it?

I understand what your getting at, and it seems like a good idea but dont know how easy/difficult it would be to achieve.

Would love to know how you get on if you do it though as i might just copy you. lol

Ha i dont quite think you understand... I dont mean wire up the face of an standard unit to a uprated one, i mean just turning a standard one into a face for the uprated one to put on when you leave your car to stop theiving B*****ds from thinking you have a decent system. See what i mean now?

The display wouldnt have to work, the car is parked and thus turned off

Right I think I get you now.... So you will be removing the facia off the h/u and putting this "blanking" face on instead once parked up?

would be interesting,depends on how far peoples units come out

plus on after market h/u's you have a surround which you'll have in the way. Also you'll have to recess it about 10mm so the fascia sits flush.
