Two pack paint...

al

  ST on the way...
I've always used cellulose paint for doing bits and bobs, but i'd like to have a go using two pack.

I've already got a compressor and a spray gun but i'm a bit confused as to how you use two pack :S

Does it need primer as per normal and does it need a laquer on top?

I've also heard that you can add activator/plasticisers to it and it's confuddled me lol

Can anyone please tell me all about it :)

Thankyou!

most of the time you do basecoat and laquer, but on old cars and say vans, white for example, you can just get high 2k paint which is like paint n laquer mixed together. you *can* also basecoat and laquer high solid colours (non metallic) but its generally more cost efficient to just paint them in high solid.

you dont need hardener in basecoat, just thinners between 1:1 to 2:1 dependant on loadsa stuff, weather, conditions, manufacturers recommendation etc. 2k laquer needs hardener generally 4:1 sometimes 5:1 with 10% thinner.

so basically you goto a shop, get your colour, get your laquer, get your hardener, get your thinners.

thin down your colour, paint it on, leave it so its touch dry, then just keep building it up, as many coats as you need. leave it to dry for 10-20 minutes then on top of that laquer it with 2-3 coats. make sure your first coat is nice and wet, but not enough to leave a finish. wait for 10 minutes or so, then apply a nice wet second coat for finish, if you dont get it, give it a third 10 minutes later.
