I was told about those spacers but I cant see them on my tyres. My tyres are the standard renault contis. Isnt the limit measured in mm?

As far as im aware all tyres ahve them, they are v.hard to spot, try running ur finger through the grooves, shoudl be about 20 or so around the tyre.

There is a limit in mm, no idea wot it is tho, try DVLAs website or sommet

you will have wear bars inbetween the tread but the rule is 1.6mm or above across the centre 3/4 or the tyre and visible tread on the outer edges

How visible :) I went looking for the rules the other day but only found the 1.6 across 3/4 rule. The fronts on my missus Picasso are knackered (after 27k mind). Since I bought her a knew even bigger bus for Xmas (C8 with electric doors ... great in the rain), Picasso will be off to Citroen when they can get their arses in gear and deliver the new one, and Im buggered if Im going to put new tyres on it.

its 1.6mm, and as said there are normally like lines inbetween the tread so you can feel if you tread is low.

i think its down the the coppers discretion to a certain extent but basically if there is little or no tread on the edges of the tyre the boys in blue will not be impressed and may well fine/give you points for your trouble, tbh 2mm isnt that much and i wouldnt fancy driving a car in the wet with tyres as low as that legal or not
