Tyres for a 172

  172

Which tyres would u recommend for a 172 mrk2 and where/whos the cheapest dealer to buy from?

Its currently got the original Continental 195/45 R16 V.

I was hoping to get some decent tyres fitted & balanced for around £200... or is that being too ambicuous?

Im in the Newcastle area.

Well... £200 fitted is rather ambitious, but the best all-round tyre at that price is probably the Toyo T1-R.

Click http://www.toyo.co.uk/HERE for their website and local dealer. Ive heard that these Toyos (successors of the well known T1-Rs - better wet road grip & treadwear) are almost as good as Michelin Exalto PE2s and Goodyear GSD3s!

Toyo T1-S are a GREAT dry road/track tyre. I had them on prior to my Exalto PE2s and I would go so far as to say that in the dry, they are a bit better than the PE2s

But there are downsides. In the wet they are quite scary! And bearing in mind that it rains quite often in England, and with a couple of underpant filling occasions :devilish: I decided I needed to get better wet grip! And currently the PE2s are stunning in this respect! Also, the Toyos wear down VERY QUICKLY! Thats the price for such a grippy soft compound tyre. My PE2s are definately sharper - maybe something to do with the stiffer sidewalls perhaps.

Marginally less dry grip (than Toyo T1-s) and MUCH better wet grip.... worth the extra pennies! Could save your life ya know!

PS :- I did consider getting Goodyear F1 GSD3s. I had GSD2s on my previous car and I have to say that they were AWESOME in the wet. Wouldnt be surprised to see that the GSD3s are the best wet road tyre ever. But there are minor downsides to them too - friends tell me that they are not the best in the dry, and have the highest rolling resistance figures (important if you do a lot of mileage as it will cost you extra money in fuel). All in all IMO the PE2s are the best.

PPS:- Has anyone tried the Toyo T1-Rs?? They are supposed to be much better in the wet than the T1-Ss and compete very well with the GSD3s & PE2s costing much less too!
