So I bought for £370 the new GDi exhaust system marketed as a GDi system.

Then I'm in WHSmiths today flicking through French Performance Magazine (May have the name wrong but you know which one I mean!) and in the new stuff section there's a new PIPER system developed in conjunction with GDi on sale for £299-£319 depending on what exhaust tip you have.

So hold on, whats going on?!

article taken on my phone (Magazine wasnt good enough to buy!)

  ph1 172...a red one
When i had my blueflame catback fitted, they gave me free fitting so they could do some development work on the car/exhaust for K-Tech...i don't think it's that uncommon..

No

I know what I bought! Else I wouldn't be kicking up a fuss would I???!

FFS!!!! When making some sort of defamatory comments about a business I would post the facts, not just assume that we know what you are talking about.

Mate, You presumed I didn't know what I was talking about, I mean i forgot to mention I had a full engine rebuild for that £420 - NOT!

off topic, but does gdi offer a cs.net discount like ktec. and if so, did they give u some discount. not that it matters now. hope you get it sorted mate

Yeh, they give this special discount where you get charged more than going some where else for a product they claim is specific to them ;)

well, tbh, i wouldnt go there, not after brad took his valver there!!

i dont care how good they may be now, i wouldnt drive up to them for anything, (thats my own honest opinion) it would be different to other members.

I don't want this thread turning into a GDi bashing, there might be an honest reason, or maybe not!

im not stated that, i know some members have had great service from them. hopefully it was a mistake, or they explain why the price was £370.

surely the piper exhaust is developed with gdi so may not be the exact same one as gdi sell..

it's not uncommon for a company such as gdi to sell their own exhaust system which is manufactured by another big company for them.

why not phone gdi up and ask them what the differences between the one you bought off them and the one that piper are selling are.

the GDi cat back exhaust deffo retails at £370 before discount.

aslo the one that taylor has appears to be £300 on that list. What is strange is there is no stealth option...

Yeh, I'll give all parties a phone monday to clear it up

Dave, I know - soz if I came across a bit rash just annoyed!

Its a shame Andi no longer frequents the forum but still.

The exhaust I'm sure are a GDI designed setup they spent ages making them work the boxes atc are I guess Piper ones to GDI specs but GDI don't want to start up trying to make them. Piper can do that in there building as theyre setp for that sort of stuff. GDI just fit them and get them at a discount as the desingners of the system.

WHy does everyone thing its a setup surly its quite the opposite since as far as I can see the advert clearly shows the manurfacturs and supplier which isn't exactly a huge shock.

Because...

GDi exhaust in development with Piper - £370
Piper exhaust in development with GDi - £299

Hmmmm, are they really going to be different???

Think you should have spoken with both Piper and GDI in the first instance

I think someone maybe putting there profit margin on top. Need to do your homework first. I've seen a 4-Pot brake system mentioned on here developed in conjuction with a manufacturer. Dealer price £800, manufacturers price £600 and they sell direct....so 25% mark up. You could say thats easy money but i suppose you should take into account the technical expertise you have to call on if there is a problem or you need further advice.

I know, hence why I'm going to look into it on Monday. As far as i'm aware though this was going to be a specific GDi system and Piper weren't bringing there own out

Although the direct kit has different connectors that make it harder to fit it would seem. Whether it's £200 harder to fit I don't know.

My 4 pot kit was £720 direct from compbrake. The bloke I spoke to originally offered me the kit for £650 then because I wanted street rather then race pads he changed his mind. IMO he was making up the price as he went along.

A retail price is the cost to the public. GDI dont buy the piper exhaust for £299 and add there profit. They will get it at a reduced trade price and IMO should sell at the retail price.

Isn't this thread slightly pointless as Tom hasn't spoken to either side yet? All its doing is causing damage to the reputation of the companies involved.

Fair point.

He needs to confirm the piper rrp. I dont think GDI are doing anything wrong by selling above the retail price. I imagine the exhaust would be available from any piper stockist though?

Personally i wouldn't know, but my car was used in the development of the GDi system and spent some time with Piper, so I doubt that this is some random Piper system that GDi are selling with a jacked up price.

Yes and I'm sure GDI were available to speak to while this was being posted.

Some people just have different ways of dealing with queries though.

Thread was created @ 13:27 and Andy does work most saturday so someone would have been there for sure, still nevermind.

I'm not argueing over the price, its the fact that the system I've got is meant to be a GDi system only, and yet Piper have suddenly come up with their own - and it's £70 cheaper.

As for how I deal with it, I spend all week on the phone haggling with people and discussing stuff, I want to enjoy my weekend without hassle. I'll get back to you all on Monday :)
