Under bonnet padding

Anyone Taken the padding from underneath the bonnet away?

Im asking as it just seems a bit of a heat obsorber....:boring:

its there to help with sound, and also keeps engine starting on really cold days...id take it out lol.

it may be now...i know on older cars people use to put blackets n stuff over the engine, or else they wouldnt start on cold days.

why heat protection for paint?! paint has a much higher melting point that the padding they put under the hoods?!

melt yes, doesnt stop it from cracking or damaging the finish.

And the padding underneath wont 'melt'.

Its honestly not there to help engine starts, blankets dont keep engines warm.

I've taken mine off and the plastic surround thing off the engine. No point to them. No problems either - infact the paint on the underside of the bonnet stays pretty clean.

i didnt say it kept it warm! the blanket helps keep the engine free from dampness, also helps stop it FREEZING! anyone knows if you wrap somethinf in in plastic/blackets the item inside dosnt freeze untill the ambient temp its much lower that 0!

My car's kept in a cosy garage M8, but I understand your point if your car is kept outside. WD40 would usually be sufficient.

I think the balnket is an old wives tale sorta thing.

Oil won't freeze, and anti-freeze doesn't freeze, it won't kee it warm as its not generating any heat to insulate

It must be of some use otherwise they wouldn't bother putting it in the car, cut down on parts saves them money, so there must be some need for it in their eyes.

My new bonnet never came with any deadening on it after my old one got mauled, Didn't mind though.
