Its just a bit of padding.

No real nead for it, but if you get bored one day just cut some padding similar size and replace it :)

On my old motor i got some heat proof stuff from HobbyCraft... was in the "bin" section lol.

Cost me £2

Glued it down after cutting it to shape, was still there till i sold the car. The standard stuff tears away so easily.

Is this foam not for noise reduction too ?

And i can imagine its also good if you have a leak it soaks it up and you never know you have one.

Unless its a big leak and spills out undertray.

Lol :)

Lol :)

Doubt it makes any noise reduction.

And yes, it will soak up most leaks.....its the downside of having it on. It will collect in there till it spills over/leaks before you know you have a leak from somewhere.

And by then you have none of that leaking fluid left and probable damage :(

I just removed mine I could really understand what it was for as it was not actually in contact with anything.

Just removed mine yesterday. Didn't know what it was and didn't see any use for it so chucked it away :).

Funny that urs is torn, how did you notice it? I thought it was a plastic bag that was caught by the under tray while driving, it hung torn on the road. But when i pulled on it, i found it had some foam on it. So unscrewed the sumpguard (?) and removed the foam.

For those that have removed there undertrays.

It may be worth keeping a hold of it and refiting it to stop road salt etc getting into engine bay and onto pulleys etc in the winter months when the gritters are covering the roads with salt. :(

And i guess it stops crap off the road getting in ;)

^^ I dont think anyone has removed it we have just removed the foam that is on it. Removing it totally would be a bit idiotic IMO!!

Undertrays don't just stop crap getting to the engine - they can (and I'm not saying the Clio one is) be used to aid aerodynamics. Lots of modern cars have them now at the front and back to improve airflow under the car and prevent drag.

I'm no aerodynamics expert, but I do have an interest in the subject and I've seen a forum where the members generally modify their cars to achieve better MPG (mostly americans by the looks of it). Some have gone to silly lengths to do this and the cars end up looking a little odd to say the least - but from what I've read they have quite good results by fitting flat undertrays...

...and if it works for mpg, it'll work to go faster!
