Understanding Broadband Speeds - Help

I'm trying to get my head around if I'm getting what I pay for in terms of Broadband speed.

I'm on Virgin Cable 4mb (L) package. I have run the three speed test below within 10 minutes and have got the following results.

DSL ZoneUK - 353.8 Kbps

So....First off am I right in saying according to the last two tests I am getting around the download speed I pay for?

Secondly why is the DSLZone Test showing 353.8 Kbps?

Thridly why is the upload speed so different?

Your speeds are fine. It will never be spot on 4000 so that's pretty close. Lots of things can affect the speed also.

im on 8mb boradband, on a daily basis my download speed is about 100kbps, with uplode it never gets higher than 50/51kbps,

after 12am(midnight) the speeds increase hugely, i will get close to 700kbps in download, and upload stays the same.

Its all due to get easier to understand later this year. OFCOM has ruled hat bb companies must be clearer about actuall speeds and not charge for services customers can never actually get. FOr example i have been offered 16mb bradband but due to my distance from the exchange i cant ge more than 7mb!

Yep, looks like it.

High server load or congested network segment that they reside on could cause it. Hence why you should always speed test from a number of sources.

Thridly why is the upload speed so different?

Consumer fiber products such as this have asymmetric data rates to their termination points. That is the product you have purchased. Reason: Cheaper for you.
