Unleaded, Optimax, BP Ultimate

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30

So what should I run my 172 on?
Its already done 10,900 miles so I dont know what its been run on before.

So is it worth the extra cost of the "fancy fuels"?

i prefer OPTIMAX.... definate improvment in performance in my Audi and my mates 300 zx

Optimax works best for me. It is the only genuine 98RON fuel you can buy in the uk AFAIK and 98RON is what the sticker says on the filler cap.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Renault recommend you run on 98RON so why use anything less. As Optimax is the only 98RON fuel over here its the only petrol to use.

Ive had my car since March 2003 and its only hever had 3 tanks of fuel which werent Optimax.

Have done 950 miles since new on Super Unleaded, Have used Shell Optimax twice in that time & only half a tank & it did drive better. Only reason Ive not used Optimax all the time is that Ive been using company car to/from work and theres no Shell garages in convenient distance of home whereas on the way to work theres several.

Company car went back today so Clio is no longer a 2nd car so from the morning its Optimax 100% if I can try & fillup to/from work.

Like above have said - RENAULT STATE 98RON

put a tank in mine and felt no improvement in mine at all!!! the car seemed to be very rough starter in the morning..i since have super unleaded and the car runs very well IMO

I discovered that a garage near me does proper 4star - which is quite tempting for my Escort RS as apparently its 99.6ron?

Pain in the arse thought as Id have to plan my routes by stations that sell 4star! Even worse that planning a journey by Optimax stations!

A higher RON just means that it can withstand higher compression ratios so if your car runs fine on 95 then there will be no improvement in using 98 RON but if your car was meant to have 98 RON then using a lower RON may cause the air/fuel mix to ignite before the ignition stage in the four stroke therefor not performing very well !! ( AFAIK )

Cant notice any difference between 97 super and optimax. Definate difference between 95 and 97 though.

On the fuel cap of a Cup (without looking) Im sure it says 97 - I may be wrong though.

If there was a Shell garage anywhere near me - I would use optimax every time - purely because the higher ron the better!!

Cocopops- Are you still here? The best thing is Optimax by shell. And the cheapest place for it is the Shell/Sainsburys garage on the Shinfield road by the KFC. Only like 78.9p last week, for the sake of a couple of pence chuck it in. Im sure people have said given thier opinions but reno recommend 98ron and its got the cleaners and protectors in it.

what should I be running my Williams on then, I currently have Optimax in, but am I wasting my money? I does seem more responsive lower down, but I could just be imagining this...
