Unlocking a iphone 4?

yea i did it via the 02 site, had to type in imei number, sent off, and it said it could take up to 7 days to do. Will i have to do anything or will it automaticly unlock?

I've got my 4s today as an upgrade, I'm selling on my 3G but I need to unlock it first. What details do I put in because if I put my current number in it'll unlock the 4s not the 3G?

It's unlocked via your IMEI, not your mobile number.

what does unlocking it do? and everyone is on about jailbreaking, what does that do? im very new to iphone and have no clue about any terms
