UPDATED !!! Clio sport broken track day booked for friday PLEASE HELP !!!

  Clio 182
I was driving my ph1 172 last nite when all of a sudden it started bogging out so pulled over and it sounded like was running on three cylinders. Then whilst driving home it drove fine then when got home started doing it again.

I can smell unburnt fuel from the exhaust, the car seems to rev ok but sounds rough on ideling.

The engine light isnt on

The car has had new plugs in recently and have been fine untill now

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TRIED!
I have had the car running and taken ht leads off one by one from the coil pack end and it ideled worse on everyone i took off?

I took the inlet manifold off checked sparkplugs sprayed connectors with wd 40, put old spark plugs back in and tryed them, checked and sprayed leads on coil end.

ALSO!
I went out and bought a new coil pack and ht leads put those on and it didnt solve the problem?

Other than that i dont really no what else to do has anyone got any ideas?? cheers

Instead of trial and error trying things, it may just be easier and a lot cheaper to take it to a reliable garage. :p

the plugs looked ok and they were only fitted a couple of weeks ago and they are bosh ones. the coil and leads will be going back to the shop at some point.

dont no if this helps but i was driving the car this morning and when coming of the clutch the car judders like its going to stall, and i had to keep the revs below 2k or will start juddering.

Ok cheers mark. i have been on the phone to a renault speacialist called northwest performance in northwich and he said the next thing he would do is try a new map sensor. then if not that then the injectors. i am getting a sensor this afternoon. going to nip to my local garage and try the sensor if it isnt that will let him have a mess with it

First things first, get rid of those plugs.

The F4R needs very specific plugs, they are NGK PFR6E-10.

I have used Bosche standard, and super 4's in my youth in my previous 172 and gave the exact symptoms as you are having now - until Fred (BTM performance) gave me an internet slap and I got the right ones in lol.

AS said the F4R was designed in conjunction with these plugs specifically, due to length, heat rating and plug gap.

First thing I recommend is get some NGK PFR6E-10 's in it, id lay a pretty big bet that will solve it.

DO NOT FIT SUPER4S they will melt and pop out like the s**t sticks they are!!

PFR6E only!!! Unless you fancy a go at helicoiling

Have a look at the state of this little toss pot if you need further convincing.

ok well mine defernetly dont have the four prongs on the plug just the one, they do look the same as the ones that come out and these boshe ones have been in the car for about three weeks with no problems. The plugs i took out when i serviced it were ngk, i actually put these back in yesterday but still didnt run any better?

if they're not super4's they'll be even worse. Get yourself a set of NGKR's before you do anything. You're asking for trouble otherwise

Cheers for the comment shaun!

Ive got the same problem, I've changed my plugs to NGKR's as ive heard slot from Bosch and still the same!
I noticed lead 4 was crushed so I've ordered some cheap leads hoping this will solve it.
My cars been stood for a week with no movement, does this indicate anything?
If it was a sensor wouldn't we get a engine or electrical warning light on??

Cheers guys
Dan

how old are your old plugs mate? really want to be changing after 30k or so (Renault say 72k but iv never had a set last that long) as it could be your old set are not good either.

I have tried swapping my MAP sensor apparently another commen fault, it wasnt that so thats gone back to the shop.
I have been down to northwest performance in northwich tonight and the guy plugged his laptop in and said that the front lamba sensor in the exhaust is showing not to be working

I told him that there was a decat pipe fitted last year along with two new lamba sensors to which he said he will look at it tomorow and he said ifs a ngk one it will be broken because they are cheap and crap and will get me a bosch one because bosch make the parts for renault.

so will have to see how he gets on tomorow and hopefully will sort it.

will let u guys now how i get on :)

How much was the MAP sensor mate? As i'm trying my leads tomorrow, if not that will be the next idea.

i'm thinking about trying a different coil pack too as I know Renault had problems with these at this age.

EDIT: I thought it didn't matter if the front sensor worked or not as long as it was plugged in?

...Or is that the rear one?

hi i have been on the phone to northwest performance they told me they have changed my front lamba sensor and the car has been out on a test drive and is ok. :) maybe i will make it to the track after all :)

thanks for your help :)

funny that.
NGK spark plus = good, Bosch spark plugs = GTFO
Bosch Lambda = good, NGK Lambda = GTFO

maybe not that funny actually.

The plugs i have in the clio are bosch. this is what it says on the box +54 fr 6 kpp33x+ these looked exactly the same as the ngk ones that came out. it would b a shame to break the seal i have on the inlet manifold now. has some gasket sealer on it lol

Guessing the plugs are the same spec as the ngk correct me if im rong lol ??? wots the differance ?

  172DD Cup
when i ran the bosch ones i had a misfire at high revs. new ngks fixed the problem. i never had to seal the upper inlet manifold, just used the existing metal gasket.
