Hope your rooms big enough to take it...I see so many people with HUGE telly's that ruin the look of their living rooms.

  Audi TT
ha ha. they have a point but I see a lot of people with full HD TV's that are way oversized for the room meaning wherever you sit you're too close and the pic is pixellated completely ruining the point!

With a 1080p signal, its actually recommended you sit a lot closer to the TV then watching an SD signal (or interpolated / upscaled signal), sometimes as close as a several feet!

As per THX recommendations too ;)

LY, just STFU and do it. The fact that your man bought a HDTV and doesn't seem to care about watching it in HD, makes me want to kick him in his nuts and claim your vagina as my own.

I love the way you assume HE bought it!! 50/50 FYI.

Sky+ HD is on the way, when Sky actually get round to f**king installing it. The thing is we have about a million DVDs, and BluRay will probably be obsolete soon. I'll wait for the next big thing, which won't be far away.

But you can kick him in the nuts and claim my lady-bits anyway.

Why will BR be out of date soon, it is still not even mass adopted yet?

And in the meantime, a decent BR player will upscale normal DVDs and give you the option of playing BRs, which in general do look stunning.

Roffles. I kinda just meant I can't believe a man has bought a HDTV and doesn't care about Blu-ray. I didn't mean bought, as in his money...supporting yo ass. Moody or what :dapprove:

Roffles again at the next big thing. Wait for that and you'll also be getting another telly. You can still play your DVDs in a Blu-ray player, but any new movies you buy or rent, would be Blu-ray, and would look much better on your telly than DVD. No brainer TBH but whatever turns you on.

Fair point!

Here's a reply from the OH :

Reasons not to buy a Blu-Ray player:

-They are very expensive, and the prices have yet to come down significantly.

-The Blu-Ray discs themselves are very expensive. We bought a DVD for £3 and the same film in Blu-Ray was £19. Not to mention a lot of films don't exist in Blu-Ray and we already have a massive collection.

-Seeing as Blu-rays still play DVDs and the price differences, we will be continuing for now to buy and rent new films on DVD so they can be watched still in the future.

-We do not have a surround sound system, and not really enough money or room and right lounge set up for one. So out of the HD picture and HD sound we are already lacking the hardware for the sound half.

-We are already very happy of the quality of DVDs we play on our HD TV. It is significantly better than quality of normal TV.

-Unless you watch close enough to see close up details (we sit far from the screen), Blu-ray won't look much better than DVD, so nevermind DVDs played on Blu-ray players!

-Blu-ray players do not "enhance" normal DVDs as such. They upconvert/upscale them in order to change the resolution at the source and do some software clean up on the image but the results are very dubious. At the end of the day a DVD is not and will never be HD, and changing the signal to do so will only enhance the imperfections, especially if you're watching an old film.

So just to say "I have the latest technology", there's no point being a sheep and following the hype unless you've got some money to waste and have got a high quality surround sound system and a 50" Full HD TV you sit right in front of...

So for me, THAT is a no brainer and I'll take my vagina back - I rest my case and kick your balls!

Well my Blu-Ray player cost 180 pounds - not really expensive for a quality bit of kit.

I rent all my blu-ray films from Lovefilm which costs the same price as renting DVD's and nearly every new film out is available in Blu-Ray

You have a HD TV - why not put it to good use?

Still can enjoy HD quality picture which makes a difference

DVD's are very good indeed - but blu-ray is significantly better than quality of DVD

Have you watched HD movies on a HD TV before?

Well there is a difference I can tell you, Compare a £20 DVD player with a £500 DVD player there is a big difference in quality, although still same DVD disc and limited resolution. Progressive Scan HDMI connections all make a difference

It's not about hype though - it's about getting the best quality from the equipment you have (eg: HD TV).

So for me, THAT is a no brainer and I'll take my vagina back - I rest my case and kick your balls!

(OH's reply!)

It's still £180 wasted when I have a perfectly good quality DVD player.

I rent all my blu-ray films from Lovefilm which costs the same price as renting DVD's and nearly every new film out is available in Blu-Ray

Ok, that's good - I did not know that. But I hardly ever rent films anyway.

You have a HD TV - why not put it to good use?

I also have car that goes to 138mph, doesn't mean I should drive it at that speed every day. My PC is capable of running the latest graphic applications - does not mean I should buy them all.

There has to be a point to something. I got that TV because it still offers better quality picture that the old CRT (that died anyway), and is put to good use because of its size and Sky+ HD coming up.

Still can enjoy HD quality picture which makes a difference

But not enough for me to justify spending £180 to watch a film once in a while.

DVD's are very good indeed - but blu-ray is significantly better than quality of DVD

There's no arguing that, it's a fact.

Have you watched HD movies on a HD TV before?

Round a friend's and in the shops. I can tell you if you stand more than 1-2 meters away you really can't tell the difference (well I honestly can't anyway). In fact it's the same for HD TV but we bought Sky+ HD for Sky+ too.

Well there is a difference I can tell you, Compare a £20 DVD player with a £500 DVD player there is a big difference in quality, although still same DVD disc and limited resolution. Progressive Scan HDMI connections all make a difference

Yes, but our DVD player is of good quality. You won't get any more out of a DVD simply because it wasn't designed to have more. The HDMI connection won't help that.

It's not about hype though - it's about getting the best quality from the equipment you have (eg: HD TV).

I already get much better quality than if I still had our 28" CRT. And with Sky+ HD I'll get the best quality out of it most of the time. All I'll miss out on is slightly better quality (watching from the sofa 3 meters away) when I watch movies on disc, but will save £180 + current Blu-Ray disc prices for that...

So I think unless you're loaded it IS hype. Look, at the end of the day, I'm not saying that Blu-ray is bad - there is no argument that Blu-ray is better than DVD! All I'm saying is that for now I think there is no sufficient reason for me to go to Blu-ray. When my DVD player dies or Blu-ray players are dead cheap then I probably will bother but right now it's just not worth it for me (and probably isn't for most people yet either)...

That was written by either a woman, or some bloke in a cardigan. One with no eyes.

Anyway if you're gonna be like that, you can keep your bloody vagina! Humphh!!!11
