Upgrading standard speakers in an '03 5 door...

  MK3 Sport Tourer TCE
Morning,

I have a 5 door Expression on an 03 plate. I don't know much about ICE but it has four 10cm speakers and two tweeters in the dash.

I've found the replacement speakers I want:
http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.asp?product=21042

I think putting them in the rear doors will be simple enough, but as these speakers are two-way and have their own tweeter, what will happen when i put them in the front doors? Will they use their own tweeter or the ones in the dash?

Thanks,

Christoph.

The originals aren't that deep at all, but you've probably still got about 2 1/2" absolute max mounting depth before you'll need to chop the rain guard out of the door card.
The trouble is that the width tapers down, take one out and you'll see what I mean.

13cm? Damn, I took one out and just guessed it was 10cm.

Lucky I haven't ordered those Pioneer speakers yet then!

Thanks!

is the rain guard the flap of plastic directly behind the speaker? If it is i cut that out of my old megane cos i was told it made the speaker sound better.

Yep thats it, wouldn't have thought it'd make and difference in sound tbh who knows. I didn't want to chop mine as its surprising how much water gets into the door skin in between the glass and seal. And it'll drop all over the back of the speaker with it chopped out, i've done it before on other peoples cars and never had a problem but I didn't want to do it with mine.
