upgrading to vista.

i have a legitimate copy of xp.

i fancy an upgrade to vista.

I have a dual core amd and will have 2gig of ram soon. (as in the next week, currently on 1 gig.)

I have an 8800 also.

Are there still issues with gaming and setting up with graphics cards?

and to answer questions, you know our specs are the same pretty much.

gfx driver was very very easy to do, just download, install, done.

ive not found a game yet that doesnt work in vista.. even if i did find one you can run in xp mode/98 mode/95 mode anyway so no harm done.

Vista gives u a lower FPS when gaming

yea lower fps.

and just so you know the lowest FPS ive seen on counterstrike is 70 on a 64 man server.

i generally hit 100-120 fps but can go upto 180-200.

so if you can squeeze maybe 5 fps out of an inferior OS (xp) then stick with xp, otherwise upgrade to vista

just so you know, i have 2gb of ram, and generally 52% is constantly in use when the machine is just idle on the desktop.

this weekend i think i am gonna lob another 2gb in considering it's only £50 nowadays.

I've got a legitimate XP and Vista Ultimate, I've tried to get on with Vista atleast three times now and still revert back to XP. Vista is just sooo poor, I've had LOADS of problems with most games.

what games?

ive downloaded possibly 30-35 since installing it.

all work bar one which is a graphics card issue (final fantasy8).

some games include colin mcrae rally 3, halflife2, prey, stalker, command n conquer3, all need for speeds, bioshock, company of heroes, call of duties, thats just a few

GTR and GT Legends don't work fullstop, IIRC Max Payne games don't work and a couple of others I have work but then crash out to the desktop for no good reason, on XP they all work fine. If i have my external hdd connected to the computer (which I always do) Vista sits for a good 2-3 minutes before booting into the desktop, XP goes straight in. My digital TV tuner works perfectly in XP, in Vista the sound is screwed. Pictures also look poor in Vista when viewing them in comparison to XP.

Tried Vista for 2 weeks, really wanted to like it, it looked good but.....pissed me off something rotten, tries to be too clever, kept hanging and slow as fook

Had to re-install with XP

Not quite true, UT3 will be OpenGL.

Better off with a console for games and then use a decent OS for everything else.

Same here.

Plus as far as i know, there is no way of turning mouse acceleration off in Vista at the moment, which is s**t for 'hardcore' fps players

Custom PC mag has a big XP v Vista article with benchies, issues & fixes, it's true to say that MS & Vista get a right slating, a great read, imo the whole Vista/DX10 thing is appauling
