Urgent help needed please, rev problem.

I noticed the car wasn't idling properly, it would hover somewhere between 2000/2700 rpm. I thought I'd see to it later, maybe an over tightened tb cable of something I thought.

Anyway, later on my journey the electical fault light comes up on the dash, followed by the engine pollution light 30 mins later...bugger!

I let it rest until the morning. Started it up in the morning, lights still on, it's idling fine only it won't rev past 3k ffs! And even then it felt sluggish.

Limped it home, turned it off, started it up again, idleing at around 2500rpm again, but now it will rev freely how it should!

Any ideas? I've only just bought the car, I mean I know it's French but I wasn't expecting trouble quite so soon! (2 days )

Seems like it went into safety mode, limited to 3k revs. Cant be anything too serious. Try and get it on a diagnostic machine. Also, try calling the guy you bought it off, politely ask if he ever had any problem with it. Where are you based.?

I guessed it was a cup, lol, saw your other thread. Lovely looking example!, dispite whats happened at the moment, still seems like a great buy fella. All cars have little glitches.. just unfortunate you've only just bought it.
I dont know the Norwich area myself. I was hoping you'd be close to one of the specialists that i'm aware of. I'm sure there must be one in your area though. Your not a million miles away from Southend are you.. birth place of ClioSport!.. lol Hope get it fixed properly soon.

Mine did this about 3 weeks ago, was the throttle potentiometer unit in the footwell buddy (£60 from renault)

Got AA cover by any chance? They can diagnose it for nowt

Cheers man, where is it exactly in the footwell?
Also, did the lights come on like mine did?
It stuck me as weird as when the car went into 'saftey mode' (revs to 3k) it idled fine!

Mine did something like this a few months back. I have a 172FF though not cup.
It happened when I had been through a car wash. First off it was revving high, idling at about 2 to 3k, so I reved it up to see if it would stop, & the engine gave out a right kick. Felt like the engine was gonna come out of the bonnet
Well anyway, after that 2 lights came on. One was something like a screen with a zigzag line & the other could have been gearbox or something. After this the revs dropped back to normal at idle, but it wouldn't go past 3 or 4k, so i was driving round like a granny.
I took it home & left it in the drive half a day & in the evening it was running fine again. One of the lights was still on the dash, but that went off after a day or so, & it's been fine since.

My guess is, water got somewhere it shouldn't have & after it dried out it was ok.

Just had the car diagnosed and you're spot on mate, same problem as yours.

Where's the best place to get one? Anywhere cheaper than Renault?

They've just come back to me, it's £50 for the sensor, and £50 for fitting, the fitting seems a little pricey for me, is it easy to fit?

Fixed it! £48 from Renault and literally took me 2 minutes to fit, good times

Yeah it's a sensor on the accelarator pedal, literally replaced the complete pedal, took 5 mins and it's fixed!

I flexed my toe on the new loud pedal and the love came flooding back

The sensor is part of the pedal unit so it all needs replacing.
Mine wasn't alloy no it's a black plastic pedal but I'm not complaining at that price.
